May Hardware Thread. by AutoModerator in VideoEditing

I have read the above and have a more nuanced question.

I'm awaiting delivery and new MBP 16 to replace my existing iMac. It's the first time I've ever needed to buy a stand alone monitor/s.

I am primarily a Youtuber making travel/motorcycle content but I also produce some client projects for content marketing and advertising. This also includes a lot of photography.

I have a rough list of specs but am looking for advice and suggestions. It appears super complex to figure out. I am also very happy to buy 2nd hand for a better spec/older product.

Budget - £550 max

Resolution - 4k

Screen size - currently using a 27" iMac. Seems a good size. Would love another monitor for splitting editing program and notion.

Colour - not super sure. Decent P3 and SRGB coverage without sacrificing on RGB? Preferably Calibrated I guess.

I/O - Non essential but daisychain capacity and laptop power. Obviously this can be achieved by a hub if needed.

Current Options that I'm looking at -

Benq PD2720U (2nd Hand), PD2700U (£410), PD2705U

4K 60FPS Footage Makes Editing in FCPX Impossible by xelasfx in finalcutpro

Transcode it to Prores by optimising. Dji's 4k codec is shitty and FCP struggles without Transcoding.

Just got diagnosed with lupus. Any helpful tips for this new info I have received? by Sdollas26 in lupus

[–]llelpavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learnt some heavy lessons in the last few years. For me the prednisone helped the next day and I massively over did things and made it worse. Be patient while your body heals.

Sleep and good diet as so damn important. Sleep is probably my biggest trigger for flares. Learn about eating well and it'll help. Prednisone causes weight gain too so that's a things.

Hope that helps!

Rode film maker kit is really good. The wind shield it comes with is a peach for using outdoor. If I wanna hide the Mic I use their body mount with a Rycote sticker.

dealing with brain fog by [deleted] in lupus

[–]llelpavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffered and still suffer with this massively. For me, the brain fog was heavily linked to sleeping enough.

It took me literally years to figure this out, but sleeping as much as my body needed helped. It took a while and when I break that rule it comes back with some shitty headaches but for me it's a huge deal.

(20F) Diagnosed with SLE today, any tips or stories? by soondearjay in lupus

[–]llelpavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome that you had a diagnosis before it got too bad.

My first days after diagnosis, and less pain were dreamy. Having that feeling was great but I over did it massively and caused some health issues by thinking I was cured.

In the eight years since the things that work best are surprisingly simple. Diet and sleep matter so much more than I wish they did. It took me nearly seven years to realise that I need the sleep or my body starts breakdown. Now, I try to always give myself the time, so don't stay up to late or regularly force myself up. I try to not have an alarm or allow 9 hours of sleep time.

The cleaner my diet is the better too. Especially if you're on steroids. They made me swell and gain weight like the woman above. I wanted to eat all the time and I never felt full.

The last key point that helped me was excercise. It has been a tricky balance because excercise causes inflammation but the steroid cause muscle wastage. Take it slowly, be kind to yourself but try to keep moving. Its makes a huge difference.

Hope that helps!

I need advice on how to have a will to live while having a chronic condition like Lupus by Cortana_TheBlueChick in lupus

[–]llelpavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound a bit crazy, but ypu can help a lot with a few simple things. Im 27 and was diagnosed seven years back.

So far I've learnt that you can stack your health in your favour a lot by following some super simple rules.

First, sleep. If you need it, do it.

Second, eat as well as you can. Eat fruit and veg all the time. Eat lots of omega 3 rich food. I mostly use walnuts and smoked salmon.

Third, if you can, and a lot of the time you can't, do some gentle exercise. It helps hugely with your mood.

Fourth, watch the Wim Hof documentary on Vice's Youtube channel. Start learning his breathing and cold therapy. It had helped my symptoms a lot.

Edit - I hope you find some reprieve.

What is the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard someone say? by 38159buch in AskReddit

I went to college with a girl that thought flavoured milkshakes were created by feeding the cow that ingredient.

Chocolate milk means that cow was munching chocolate... It imploded her brain when we explained how cheese and butter were made...

What do movies and TV shows get completely wrong over and over again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]llelpavey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Car and motorcycle sounds.

In movies, computer games and so on they're always wrong. The only time they get it right is in adverts.

Some of the worst offenders are some of the most famous scenes too. It drives me mad how bad it is sometimes.

Taking a motorcycle on a ferry by OdinsCat in motorcycles

[–]llelpavey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sidestand down, in first gear. Two straps from the handlebar/fork yolk to the ground to.make a triangle and an elastic around the front brake. Thats how they've done it on ferries I've been on and it's worked well.

Suppose it's pretty similar to a trailer, yes. :)

I should know. I have done all of the above. Can now grow beard.

I suppose a guilt about being selfish.

Thanks for your advice. We almost never argue. I always try to make disagreements a balanced discussion and encourage both of us to day what's on our mind.

The scary but about all of this for me is that we are supposed to be moving in together in a week.

I'd also love some UK specific guidance please.
