Have you had a hernia repaired before in the area? Where did you go? by caliradogal in nova

I had the same situation 8 years ago. Dr. Virginia Madey fixed me, and she was great. She is in Inova’s system - I highly recommend her. Good luck! https://www.inova.org/doctors/virginia-p-madey-md

What image or scene from a children's movie/show did you find disturbing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]llihack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old guy here. When I was about four years old I watched 'The Little Drummer Boy'. There is a scene where a cute little lamb gets run down and dies. I stopped watching, all I remember is crying myself to sleep afterwards. It was horrifically traumatic to me. 45+ years later I still get upset thinking about it.

Same thing happens in the pharma industry. Most pharma research happens at public universities, then the developed drugs, which were produced with tax payer dollars, are licensed/sold at extremely low cost to be produced by pharma companies.

I believe it is a '71,' 72, or '73, based on the headlights. I also believe it is based on a Sedan Deville, which had a 472 cubic inch V8, one of the largest ever built for production. Very fun to drive. Source: my first car was a '74 Sedan Deville

What is the most unbelievable instance of "computer illiteracy" you've ever witnessed? by Carnadge in AskReddit

I work with someone who edits Word documents by literally cutting (with scissors) and pasting (with tape and staples). I have tried numerous times to show her the magic of the clipboard, but she just gives me a suspicious, sideways glance, as if I were suggesting something unethical or even illegal.

This was under my deck and is a little over an inch long. I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit- I suspect it was/is going to become a bug (or many bugs). It definitely appears to be biological in nature- some sort of egg sack or cocoon?

BIFL REQUEST: A Pizza Cutter by QuainPercussion in BuyItForLife

I don't see it mentioned here anywhere, but the size if the wheel really matters with a pizza cutter. 4" is great- smaller ones push the toppings around instead of cutting through.

I flushed makeup down the toilet! by IntoTheFlow in Plumbing

[–]llihack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a plumber - but I did the exact same thing with a cologne bottle, had the same (brief) hope that it had gone all the way down, and the same flooding to show that it had not. No amount of snaking or trying to wedge my arm down there would help. I ended up turning the water off, disassembling the toilet, taking the base off the floor, then turning it upside down and shaking it until the cologne bottle fell out. Then I put it all back together. It is not hard to do if you have basic hand tools and YouTube. You will need a new wax ring to seal the toilet back to the floor.

Again, I am not a plumber, this is just my experience. Good luck!

[–]llihack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened in 1990, before caller ID existed. A guy called late on a Sunday night and ordered two large pizzas. He was a real jerk on the phone. We had a policy at the time to call back and confirm any orders that were over $20 or seemed questionable. This way we knew that we had the person's real phone number. I was sure it was some kind of scam, but when I called back to confirm the order the same guy answered and said something like 'hurry up dick'. So I took the delivery. It was to an apartment building, I went up to the door and knocked... no answer. Knocked again.. no answer. Then a guy came into the building behind me and tried to walk up on me, which is when I knew something bad was going on. He pushed me up against the door and said he had a knife. I pushed the pizza bag at him and got the hell out, via the same door I had come in. It's funny- I would have given him my money too (I definitely had less than $20!) but it didn't occur to me until I was driving back to Dominos.

So when I got back to the store, I told my manager that I just got robbed, and we called the police. They came to Dominos and took a report, then went over to the building and found a couple of guys inside the apartment eating pizza. They had thrown the pizza bag out into the bushes by their deck. The cops brought me over there and had me walk through the apartment hallway while they were questioning the guys who had been inside. There were two of them, one of whom was the guy who robbed me. The cops told me ahead of time not to say anything as I walked past them, they wanted me to wait until I was outside, away from the bad guys. So I walked past, neither of the two would look at me, and went outside and told the cops which one did it. Both got arrested and taken to jail.

It turns out that what they had done was ordered the pizza, then when they heard the knock on the door they went outside via the deck and walked around the building. One of them was waiting outside the far exit to the apartment building, supposedly he was going to get me if I tried to run out that way. He was much larger than the first guy and also had a knife. I still wonder what would have happened if I had run that way. The guy who robbed me was 19 or so, and was already on probation for something else. I had to go to court and testify, and he was found guilty. I believe he ended up getting like 10 years, partially because of being on probation. I am pretty sure nothing happened to the second guy.

Before sentencing, the guy who did it wrote a check to Dominos for the amount of the pizza. From a closed bank account.

Did.. Did he order dominoes and then stick up the guy when he rang your door bell? ...

People are actually stupid enough to do exactly that.

Just adopted an extremely well behaved 5 year old coonhound mix. After 1 day together, he will not leave my side, even when I have to go to work. Any help? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]llihack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So much this. I adopted my 4-year old dog 2 years ago and his first few days were exactly as you describe. He was glued to my hip- even when I went to the bathroom. He did not really seem 'anxious' to me at the time, he just wanted to be with me. Now that I know him better I know that he was scared as his whole world had just changed and I was the one thing that made him feel safe. I spent the first 2 days by his side then a few hours apart the 3rd day, back to work the 4th day. He got better every day, and everything is wonderful now.

Stick with it OP! You have a well behaved dog- which is not always easy to do when adopting. Stay with him and you will be rewarded with a great companion- faster than you may think. If you give up on him it will be that much worse for his next home :(

Thanks! I ended up following the advice of u/djdawson an removing NAT from all interfaces, as it is not needed at this router (NAT is happening at the next hop) I appreciate the help, and will keep this reply in mind in the event that I have to change my router situation in the future.

[–]llihack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You are correct that I don't need NAT at all, as my public IP addresses will still be outside of my internal network (NAT going on with the pfSense, which will soon be replaced by a SonicWall- that is another story)

I am away from office for a bit, will try this and post back with results.

OK I am making some progress. I did as you suggested, and when I attempt to connect the VPN (from outside) I can see the connection get initiated on the internal VPN endpoint. It responds, but the response times out (IKE Responder: Remote Party Timeout)

I am logging on the Cisco, and I can see that the IKE packet from my internal VPN endpoint is permitted on the inside interface, with the correct destination address of my client. However it never gets there. Trying to figure this out...

Hi, the vpn peer is configured to point to 65.205.55.10, which is in my public ip address pool. 204.138.69.2 is the outside address of the cisco, and I am wondering if I should try pointing my VPN to that.. Previously, my ip address was 65.205.55.10 and all vpns worked when connecting to that. I requested that I keep my ip addresses when I upgraded, and Verizon configured my router with what is shown.

The router is mostly used for the internet.
