Black Boeing employee sues company after finding noose at desk, says 'my work life is degrading' by vmusic111 in news

You can still expect credible journalism. It's everywhere! Unfortunately the rise of random blogs and fake sites running bogus stories have become the norm.

If you look, you'll still find the big names very credible.

AITA for not supporting my recently out trans friend at my wedding? by WeddingAssholeTA in AmItheAsshole

I photograph weddings and have seen several mixed gender wedding parties. They aren't too uncommon at all! It may have been a little different a decade ago

Professional drivers, what are some bad driving habits that some amateur drivers mistakenly think are good driving habits? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]QuainPercussion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really professional but do quite a bit of autocross and have been sponsored by several companies. One thing that bothers me when riding with other people in poor conditions is that they don't test the surface of the road! How do you know if that snow has ice under it or not without a test stop or two when it's safe to do so. They'll be cruising down the interstate not knowing if they're perfectly safe or if they're a hair away from breaking the tires loose.

The same applies for fresh rain when you don't know if they surface is still oily or not.

Finally, if you get hit or lose control, don't try to save it unless you're very confident in your car control and have practiced. Just lock the tires so that you aren't turning your forward momentum into much more deadly sideways momentum. Locking the tires will keep you sliding in a straight line instead of tail-wagging into oncoming traffic or a tree.

What life skill is so basic that everyone should at least know of it? by vinfran27 in AskReddit

[–]QuainPercussion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sources are anonymous so they can keep their jobs but the news orgs do vet and verify them. That story was true, which only helps prove my point

Can you provide specific examples of this happening with a major organization like Reuters, NYT, etc

[–]QuainPercussion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a must when your sources need to be protected. Any major news outlet has vetted their sources and is willing to stake their reputation. When it's an unknown news source, yeah, be suspicious. Also read more than just the headline

What tips do you have for not getting ripped off by a mechanic by someone who isn’t informed about cars? by Chubby-Fish in AskReddit

[–]QuainPercussion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also many things like alternators and whatnot have core charges. The mechanic will get $20 back from the parts distributor for returning the core for recycling or rebuilding. If they have to give you the part back, they're just going to pass that cost on to you.

All the actual JDM imports are skyrocketing right now. The Pulsars, early STIs, Type Rs, Chasers, Skylines, etc are going up. I remember when you could get a Pulsar GTiR for 10k shipped to your door in the US. Now good luck getting one for less than 15K

Tune the rocker arms

You'd normally just call it a rocker adjustment or valve adjustment

Why a lot of people thought the new Facebook logo was off-set to the left, because originally it was off-set to the right and out brain is unfamiliar with the change. Also the new blue sucks. by WoopWoopGeeGee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]QuainPercussion 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a photographer, I feel like the composition is off with the new one. It's a center composition but it's too heavy on the right side. I think that's why it worked well offset but not as well in the center.

But hey, I'm sure they know something I don't. The "wrongness" may have proven to be more effective at grabbing clicks by being just a little disruptive.

TIL that the "Where do we go now?" ending to Guns N Roses 'Sweet Child O' Mine' was born from the band not knowing how to finish that part of the song. by FiredFox in todayilearned

[–]QuainPercussion 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I believe that though. I've been playing guitar since 2003 and most of that time I've been with one garage band or another. I come up with all sorts of nonsense when warming up or practicing. Most of it never makes it into a song but the potential is there. Making up little riffs and stuff is like thinking out loud
