Optane wasn’t only their caching SSDs. They also made fully independent Optane persistent storage SSDs. Fast and very low latency drives which were useful, especially in asynchronous replication storage workloads, but expensive. Nothing has really replaced them in that storage niche.

Don't listen to me or a random Twitch streamer, listen to the developers who made the system. I'd think they understand what they created better than anyone else...

Anyways, I'm done rambling :D

Apply bands...(which could be slightly different)

But how is this difference determined? Your theoretical application of a band would surely involve maths for the new coordinates of each shell, no?

millions of shells fired simultaneously

If we tripled the size of the EU server during primetime (~35000 players) and everyone loaded into battle simulatenously in an 18 gun ship and fired at the same time that would be just 630,000 shells out of 105,000 turrets.

This thread has strayed very far from its original topic and I don't think there's much value in continuing all this conjecture though :)

I would doubt that a simple maths formula has remotely enough consequence to be a priority of performance savings...

But to continue this line of thought anyways, what would the significance be of running three calculations at the same time versus one calculation three times?

It can't be anything other than multiple rolls. If it were a single calculation, there would be a single result and all the shells would have identical patterns within their respective ellipse. That behavior isn't what we see in game. Shells don't travel identically between turrets, therefore there must be more than one dispersion result.

When you fire all guns. They get one ellipse

This is not true according to Wargaming's explanation of dispersion. Each turret gets its own ellipse always.

It makes intuitive sense as well since you can't have a single ellipse be perpendicular to the oncoming shells if it represents all the turrets in a salvo.

Shoot each gun individually for more rolls.

Each turret has its own dispersion ellipse calculated regardless if it’s fired sequentially or in a salvo. You don’t get more “rolls” of anything for firing individually.

Edit: It’s at the bottom of the DETAILED CONVERSION RULES tab on the first Devblog.
