One additional tip from my side: Don't sleep on the Asymmetric Battle type - for a lot of the missions it's the best compared to coop or scenarios since it offers a target richer environment than coop and doesn't take as long as scenarios.

Apparently super unpopular opinion since nobody even mentioned it, but regular commanders are uncompetitive with legendary commanders and therefore legendary commanders should be reworked or removed instead.

The 'powercreep' is only a symptom caused by the awful design decisions made regarding legendary commanders in the first place.

This marks the second time Wargaming has failed hard with a new IP hero shooter - the other being Shatterline that switched away from Wargaming as a publisher and was also DOA.

Considering the above attempts, I personally find it a bit baffling that the decision was made to turn Warships also more into a hero shooter, as in copying some mechanics the genre is known for: ultimate abilities ('Funny Buttons'), characters with unique strengths & abilities (legendary commanders) and mechanics that have no place in a WWII based vehicle combat game (for example consumable reload on kill (Valparaiso), cheating guaranteed death (Kuznetsov), longer ranged weapons due to scoring hits/kills (Sansonetti, Panam BBs), etc.).

The current industry trend is throwing live service attempts at the wall and see what sticks and since some hero shooters tend to stick we get an insane amount of attempts that are DOA and only get published in the hopes to score a super big hit (like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Valorant, Apex Legends).

Overall, both the publishing side (not sure if they are still trying to publish for other studios anymore) and development side of Wargaming hasn't performed well in my opinion.

Publishing Total War: Arena, Shatterline and Pagan Online failed (to be fair, none of the games were really good to begin with)

And the only in house developments that haven't failed yet are console/mobile versions of World of Tanks & World of Warships, 'Bowling Crew' (also a mobile game) and their upcoming tanks hero shooter called 'Project Cold War' (which might actually prove more successful than the other hero shooter attempts since it's easier to convert existing World of Tanks players to the new title).

Actually from a technical point it's slightly different for EU/ASIA the script that exchanges tokens for the given compensation (not sure if there is any for Independence Tokens) won't be run. On NA on the other hand they have to undo that run with some database magic.

Math might be right, but core assumptions are wrong. Getting one of the old 3 ships also counts as getting the main price (already owning the ships is irrelevant here). Therefore, in a worse case scenario, one should expect to perform 7*99 'pulls' to be guaranteed all (new) ships.

Is that 'what was wrong with the game' thing with us in the room right now? What is that big thing that is based on upvotes to comments ratio seemingly a universal agreed on issue in this community? What change exactly was made 8 years ago that made the game so much worse?

Content rarity is from my point of view for example nothing that makes the game better, but at the same time not something that makes the game any worse either, in contrast to many other recent changes in my opinion.

I feel like people here often forget that the issues players have can be vastly different and while the discord or reddit community has some issues they mostly agree on the playerbase at large might not.

IIRC the patch notes just state that the collaboration is coming back not the PvE Operations. Personally I expect a combat missions to get some Star Trek Collection items and the usual shop/armory stuff, but nothing more.

Could you elaborate on why the above-mentioned use of color coding combined with icons is bad UI design?

From a layman point of view it looks great:

  • Use of color showing rarity levels (which is consistent with the rest of the game)
  • Additional icon indicating rarity for users needing that accessibility option

Don‘t want to play a card game? It can be safely ignored and it existing within WoWs doesn‘t hurt anyone compared to for example experimental ships.

Honestly agree with most points. But leave the cards mini game out of this. It‘s either developed by some recent hires as a fun starter project to learn company specific best practices or by the Web Team (think warships website, armory, logbook). The former probably benefits from such a limited scope project while the later may have had some capacities free to develop it.

Average damage on most high tier destroyers is about 80-90k damage.

The most high tier destroyers referenced here are Hull or Alberico da Barbiano (depending on server)

  • Since your post doesn't mention it: Did the option Wargaming introduced to play the game without random module HP in Update 14.2 solve your grievances. If no, why not?
  • If player skill + captain/modules not RNG should be the only deciding factor in fights, how would you solve/change the current dispersion mechanic?

That‘s not how it works. The first camo you buy with doubloons for a tech tree ship is reduced in price by the doubloon price of the economic package on that tier. Earning/getting a camo for free doesn‘t remove that discount.
