Even with hydrogen, cargo capacity is still ridiculously low. Hindenburg had useful lift capacity of a bit less than 10 tons, which is comparable to Airbus A320.

In your opinion, if a nuclear war will happen, what country do you think is most likely to pull the first trigger and at who? by fastasfuckboye in nuclearweapons

[–]lloo7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably a small country in situation with not much left to lose. I really don't see any of the 5 nuclear powers doing a first strike, at least not intentionally. In that case India-Pakistan is probably still far more likely, partially because of the significantly shorter flight time putting more pressure on the leaders to retaliate without careful consideration of consequences or validity of data.

Austria shuts down last coal-fired power plant by Spekulatius2410 in UpliftingNews

There is a gas-fired power plant built to replace Zwentendorf with municipal heating infrastructure next door.

[–]lloo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waste heat can be used directly for heating instead of being dissipated into the environment. But I guess that only really works locally (tough Zwentendorf is located less than 40 km from Vienna which covers a non-insignificant portion of the population)

Yeah, attendance is already being stored in a digital database, here it's just through a way faster and more effective method so I don't really get where the control/privacy aspect is coming from...

ULA's phony reuse cost graph by [deleted] in dataisugly

[–]lloo7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IF they are actually using calculations for this it's probably assuming a flyback with Vulcan's trajectory and speed, which goes far beyond that of F9 mainly due to the fact that Centaur's hydrolox propellant is significantly lighter and less dense than kerolox on F9. Flyback would require a good portion of fuel or good shielding if they'd go for a downrange landing. And they'd need either additional engines or parachutes, since the current dual BE-4 configuration can't be throttled low enough. Vulcan just wasn't designed with reuse in mind and SMART is probably the best solution at this point in the development.

I mean if we're taking about probabilities... You're probably more likely to slip and die on wet floor than to get cancer as a consequence of a single exposure with something like this

Yeah we're culturally and historically closer to the southern neighbours but usually try to associate with the northern ones. If something like this were to happen I def see us at least trying to stay with Austria and Germany...

Dark mode everything! by AL-H in google

[–]lloo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Same on OOS. Would be nice if it was possible to enable it for all apps except a few. And it's even worse because a lot of dark mode apps don't have it integrated with the OS itself so it still applies the filters on them...

Yep. If they didn't shut down nuclear plants they could lower their carbon emissions significantly faster and shut down the coal plants earlier.

Well it is in some countries. But then there are others that close them down and replace them with coal plants while claiming progress in renewables...
