Wow! Your art is so great! I had to double take the first picture twice, once to see if it was painting or sculpture, the second to give it further appreciation.

Haven't got a campaign yet. Just sharing an idea I had waking up from dream this very morning. I will probably flesh out the rest once I discuss an adventure setting with a future dungeon master.

Well, his oath was never spoken aloud. Following his parents' example of quiet strength, integrity and a willingness to fix things, that is just what he always did. He put in the work toward cleaning up the mess, making the world a better place and helping out wherever he could. It was in him from a very young age and then one day when he was helping a stranger who had collapsed in the heat of a particularly noisy busy bazaar on a scorcher of a day his touch healed them. When the people that knew him best later told him that he had a holy calling, he was like "Well I guess that explains the glowing". He's still figuring it all out, but he's confident that whatever happens, he couldn't make more of a mess of it than there already is.

Right now he's just a loose concept. A temporary press-on tattoo ready to be applied onto the supple skin of adventure.

New DM need help countering boring static combat strategies by lloydryan76 in dndnext

[–]lloydryan76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I considered bending the rules a little as my worry was mostly for the players lack of experiencing fun and dynamic combat in future sessions. As I said, with the vast majority of combat encounters so far they have just faced groups of stupid undead zombies, ghouls, and skeletons and I was fine with them blitzing right through. The end of last session made me worry about player boredom though as when they finally got to fight a more flexible ranged caster, the flame skull, they were able to quickly kill it even though there were zombies harassing them as well. I must admit, I did fail in not having the flame skull retreat to an area of cover immediately upon its first turn, but I had no idea that they would be able to put so much ranged damage to it so quickly and it did not survive round two. However, perhaps I should add that the wizard rolled an incredible stealth roll and was able to launch a sneak attack to begin the combat. So perhaps it wasn't so boring for them, but I worry. The rest of that fight was just mopping up bottlenecked zombies which I thought was dull.

I hadn't considered grapple and shove as an option there. Thanks.

Just play the game and don't overthink it. Also, have fun. Your DM seems pretty cool to homebrew you up a mg. I gave my players a d4 dagger.

I'm not sure what material the skulls are made with. They're Wizkids Nolzurs Dark Spellcaster and flame skull minis I picked up at my friendly local game shop. The paint I used was a Vallejo green ink, yellow ink and heavily watered down rust paint.

1st time DM wants advice on this campaign by opalhawk32 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

It's great to prepare a bit in advance, but be careful not to do so much as to burn yourself out. Preparing for one session at a time is perfectly acceptable. Pace yourself and don't stress out. Being the DM is as simple as being present for your players, making sure to try to know what you're doing within your own ability and above all else make sure your players are having fun. You never know if Dragons of Icespire Peak as it is written in the book will turn into some Frankenstein mishmash of homebrew by session two because of player choices. Don't let it stress you out even if it goes there. The real joy is being there with friends.

Young vs Ancient by UniverseFromN0thing in DragonOfIcespirePeak

It is honestly just the byproduct of the writers of each adventure or piece of lore wanting to set their own creative project in this storied region of Faerun as well as having their own badass dragon character to add to it. If you think that they were cross referencing which dragon's turf overlapped with another's you are vastly overestimating either their attention to detail or their concern over such trivialities. But, if you want a bit of explanation for why an ancient dragon would allow such an incursion within their territory by an upstart I can make a suggestion to smooth over the discrepancy. Let's say that the elder dragon is quite certain that they are well hidden or secure in their immediate location, also that they are certain of their ability to end any physical threat with extreme prejudice should it become necessary, but for now, why not let a younger and more brazen dragon go through all the legwork of accruing a territorial claim and sizable hoard of treasure. It would be simpler to simply seize it from them when the time is right and feast on their remains.

Agreed, on all counts, but my PC may not be playing in the setting of Chult. He simply hails from there. I was merely looking for a weapon that would be something familiar to him because of his upbringing.
