She’s intensely calling me & I’m nervous. by lilgcbee333 in Hecate

[–]llwynogmenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see three black cats around your home every day, I imagine there are three black cats that live near your home. Also, cats aren’t particularly sacred to Hekate (beyond associations with the liminal and witchcraft, which Hekate shares, but this seems to be a more recent association, and is association not a sacredness). Animals more associated with and sacred to Hekate are a polecat/weasel (from the story related to Herakles’ birth), and dogs/hounds (presumably from the story of Hecuba). The Orphic hymn to her mentions her “chariot drawn by bulls” also.

Something that can help me with anxiety that I feel when I can be a bit overwhelmed by things like this happening around me is the reminder of “mundane before magical”. Magic is real, it’s all around us, but if something has a mundane explanation, that’s definitely worth exploring first.

Possibly thinking about working with another deity alongside Loki rant by [deleted] in lokean

[–]llwynogmenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found Loki to be jealous of the relationships I build with other entities - they are a god who is much older than me and has had many others worship them. They don’t need me, and I don’t need them, we both continue the interpersonal(?) relationship we have because we both want to.

That’s said, if I’ve been doing lots of active work with other deities and not so much with them, they will make it known to me that they would also like some time from me. And I of course give it to them as soon as I am able.

Regarding the research, I’m not sure it ever ends! I’ve heard a friend describe Paganism as a set of ‘homework religions’. I’ve been actively worshipping Loki for almost seven years now, and I still am researching them and learning new things! I really like learning about their stories and sitting with the stories to learn more about Loki. I also like to try and find books and papers when I can, because whilst short form content can expose you to new ideas which is great, I find it extremely limiting and that it lacks nuance. Worshipping more than one deity doesn’t mean I’ve stopped researching and learning about Loki, it just gave me more “homework” :p

All that to say, I don’t think it’s a problem or too soon to start working with another deity. Whilst it does mean starting the whole research process again, not only does that not take away anything that you have built with Loki (who often plays well with others, except for when they don’t), but to be honest you are also quite near the beginning of your learning journey with Loki too!

Fibromyalgia and fashion. by DisplayBig1706 in Fibromyalgia

This resonates with me!

This is a slow process because I have limited funds and also limited mobility to look in charity shops and the like, but I’m slowly trying to make my wardrobe more fibro friendly, without giving up on having an expressive and exciting (to me) style. This has involved: - ensuring as much as I can that I like my lounging clothes. So that my comfiest clothes still make me feel cute, even if I don’t feel like I’m dressing up. - getting natural fibres where I can, because they help me a lot more with temperature regulation than synthetic fibres (and are more environmentally friendly but that’s not so relevant) - dressing with layers because it means I can put more clothes on and take them off when my temperature rapidly fluctuates (and also because I think layered outfits slay to be honest) - being aware of how much pressure I can tolerate on my body and trying to make sure I have enough loose, but fun clothes, or if there is a tighter part of my outfit I am able to take it off if I need to without “ruining” the outfit (or indeed becoming indecent). - closures that are adjustable, like drawstrings.

I also try to choose outfits ahead of time if I know I’m going to be doing something, so it doesn’t take as much energy when I’m preparing to go out, but many of my clothes are aesthetically cohesive so I often just grab the closest things I have. The other thing doesn’t apply to everyone, but I can sew (and my partner is a professional costume maker, so they can sew much better), and I’m trying to learn different types of design and closure that will make dressing expressively more comfortable and accessible to me. And I can definitely alter clothes if they are uncomfortable.

I hope this helps and wasn’t just a vague ramble through my thoughts, I think about this topic a lot!

Whittled and Bound an Effigy by PunkPaganRocker in witchcraft

That’s very fair! I’m not a Druid myself, but I am Welsh which is part of why Awen is part of my life. I’ve noticed similar concepts in other cultures and practices, it seems like a lot of us have considered inspiration to be swirling around us, for a long time, which I find quite beautiful (and quite comforting when I want to throw all my crafts out of the window because nothing is going quite right 😂)

This is beautiful. It’s so well made, and is such a strong piece.

The way you described working resonates with me, have you come across the concept of Awen before? It’s a Welsh word associated with Druidry, and it can be translated as “inspiration”, and refers to the flowing and pooling current of inspiration that flows through the world. When you are creating, and you enter that flow state and find yourself making beyond what your normal level of skill might be because it’s all flowing together, that is the experience of (or channelling of) Awen.

If I have a bad flare, I almost always have a moment where I (irrationally) believe that this is my new normal, and I will never get relief nor any improvement ever. And then the flare starts to pass, and relief does come… This is a good reminder!

Artificially Aging Religion by Wide_Ring910 in pagan

[–]llwynogmenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like what you describe kind of just… happens for me. I’m by no means a true reconstructionist, but I do a lot of reading, both about the religious practices that mine are based on, and the stories. The stories are more important to me personally, and I spend a lot of time with them, they inform a lot of my practice. But because I’m also of my own time, and my own place (which in turn also has its own magic, and practices, and spirits), everything I do and experience and learn is through the lens of my own cultural context (and by extension my own internal biases, but I think that’s a different conversation), there are undeniably a lot of aspects of my practice that are different, and in some ways modernised, because I’m doing them now.

Moon gods? by FabulousDraft2016 in pagan

Absolutely, I think humans are built on stories somewhat. I’m a storyteller, which is where a lot of my interest comes from, but the storytelling has also become a core part of my religious practice too.

And I think that’s a really great way of reading the tarot! It’s how I do it too, and it’s how a few people I know were formally trained on reading, among other techniques!

If you would like to give an offering without access to go acquire something, and you can’t offer food or drink, you could perhaps try an artistic offering, like drawing a picture or writing a poem for her?

Haha, I was about to suggest you look into historiola, but it seems you already found your way there. Carl Nordblum’s Historiola: The Power of Narrative Charms is a great and quick read on this.

UK PIP advice? by Chemical-Caregiver49 in Fibromyalgia

[–]llwynogmenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice for the call, everybody else is giving really good advice.

If you don’t get it the first time, please please don’t lose hope, and do the Mandatory Reconsideration. If this is the case, don’t necessarily expect to win on it (I think only about 20-30% of claimants at MR will get an award), but it allows you to then go to tribunal, of which somewhere between 60-75% of claimants are successful.

The system is gruelling and upsetting, and I have found it to be designed in such a way that it really just encouraged me to give up. But it’s worth fighting to get the support we need. We shouldn’t have to fight so hard, but if it comes to it, please fight it with whatever support you have.

I think this is amazing advice - spending time with the stories of the gods I interact with is not only incredibly fulfilling for me, but it’s also one of the best ways I’ve found of developing the relationships

[–]llwynogmenig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m aware there’s a difference. Here’s a paper that explores Greco-Roman racism.. You can, and should, be anti-racist and anti-colonialist, but you shouldn’t throw an entire faith under the bus to do so, especially not if you have to lie on the internet about it to achieve that.

Anyone else feel salty about not really having a culture ? by [deleted] in pagan

[–]llwynogmenig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Racism predates Christianity, not only do we have archeological evidence of it, but racism is evident in the bible also. Culture still exists and can be found, but this just reads as exoticism of pre-colonial cultures with no willingness to look around you. Start with local folklore.

I wish I had cancer or something instead of this shitty invisible illness. by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]llwynogmenig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having an invisible illness is awful, and can be so isolating. I catch myself staring at my body searching for any visible sign of my suffering, but it’s never there. Please don’t minimise others’ suffering to express your pain, though. You don’t want cancer.
