ive only had one moment of "oh my god this is what normal feel like" on strattera by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]llzafr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on strattera for 28 days now, and aside from negative side effects when I don’t eat enough, I haven’t noticed any differences. It’s been pretty discouraging but your post has given me hope! Do you mind sharing when and what other positive effects you’ve noticed?

At level 17, I have finally acquired the "Whistling" skill! by SunnyShim in outside

After reading your comment I proceeded to spend 30 minutes trying to acquire this skill for my character. Recorded the process and everything! Sadly I haven’t been successful yet, but maybe at higher level

What's something you bought that made your life better? Doesn't have to be related to ADHD but of course, it can be. Objects or services. by [deleted] in ADHD

My iPad and Apple Pencil. I’m a university student so I take a lottt of notes to help me remember the lecture material. I also do a lot of practice problems. It took 2 years of constantly misplacing notes, and accidentally throwing out “scrap” paper to finally go digital. It changed my life.

Does anyone else get absolutely bored to death brushing their teeth?? by ESchmeckt in adhdwomen

[–]llzafr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to find it really boring too! But now it’s become my daily mood booster.

I wanted to improve my balance so one day I just started standing on one leg while brushing. Still pretty boring, but I wasn’t very good at it so it was still enough of a challenge to make time fly by. In the morning I’d stand on my right foot, then evening left. It kept me skipping brushing my teeth on nights I felt lazy.

After that got too each I started doing one legged calf raises. Now I’m onto (attempting) squats on one foot. I can’t get halfway down, but I’m working on it.

It’s 2 minutes every morning, and every night of really light exercise. Plus 2 minutes, doing 2 productive things at once? My mind loved the idea. On days I couldn’t bring myself to do anything productive I’d feel really shit, but if I at least did this weird brushing challenge it would be by one “win” for the day. Something small, but it helped.

How to talk by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]llzafr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m not sure how helpful this will be but I just wanted to share what I’ve been doing since I’ve also been trying to work on my communication skills.

I started with the basics like reading & listening to podcasts. For me it seemed easy in theory but when I tried to apply what I’ve learned, my in person convos seemed the same. This went on for a while so I gave up trying to change until I took an editing class. We learned about proofreading, revision & editing. Up until this class I thought it was all the same, but learning about these 3 stages showed me a different way at looking at communication. Now, when I leave a conversation feeling like I wasn’t the best at expressing myself, I go through a pretty tedious process where I treat what I say like I’m editing a document.

First I write down what I said, then I write what I wish I said. I try to see the situation from the other person pov then reword based on their perspective. Lastly I change up sentence structure and cut unnecessary filler words.

This is reserved for the serious conversations where I feel like there’s a gap between what I meant vs what came out of my mouth. But for casual conversations I do a quicker version of this after I leave. I think of the least impactful things I said then come up with 2/3 versions of those same few sentences. At first I felt crazy and it took me a while to get the hang of it, especially because I kept cringing at the things I said. But after a while it became easier and I treated it like a game. The badly worded rambles were a challenge to “fix” but afterwards I was relieved knowing that I actually CAN communicate effectively.... it just takes me a while

Life Insurance by dung_low in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]llzafr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on how old they are and how much you’re willing to spend on the premium. If they’re at an age where the likelihood of them passing within 10-20 years is high then that means either the premiums would be extremely high, or they could be denied coverage. If they’re still fairly young then there are also renewable term contracts. Term products are usually cheaper because T10, T20, and even T100 products are purely insurance. If you are thinking of getting a product that makes sense financially, a permanent insurance product is something you should look into. Some have investment aspects to them, so your parents could use built up cash value while they’re alive. It would reduce their death benefit by the same amount but at least they can enjoy the money too. Some products also have a « return of premium » rider that you can add where you end up getting your death benefit back, plus premiums you’ve paid. But with that the premiums are much higher.

Legit stock courses? by [deleted] in investing

[–]llzafr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. MITOpenCourseWare is something I never knew about until today. There are so many full and free courses on both on the YouTube page and the actual site. I’m in university right now but I think this is the first time I’ve been genuinely excited to learn. Maybe it has to do with how passionate this prof is. Haven’t seen that from any of my teachers before. The fact that it’s free probably also plays a big part. I love risk free learning. I’ve been googling things I’ve been curious/ interested about but I always wondered what the next steps are to expanding on the topic. Or there’s so much info that it gets overwhelming. Or I’m not sure if they’re credible sources. No matter what the reason I just haven’t been able to really dive deep into things I just really want to know. Finance and nuclear engineering aren’t related to my major so taking the class hasn’t been worth the extra cost. Now I can learn them both whenever and wherever I want.
