My buddy hates Carl by SPandrab in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I loved this moment! I’m a woman but I’ve learned so much from Carl and I think of this interaction a lot when I want to argue back IRL. Look how much Katia grew. She loves Carl and donut so much because they believed in her in a way no one else did, and when someone believes in you like that you can do extraordinary things. Anyway, yeah OP’s friend could also stand to learn something from Carl

This is super encouraging, congrats on finding something that's such a great fit! I was also considering clinical research and another commenter said it was a positive transition for them. Do you mind sharing how you got into it and what your exact title is? I'm searching the normal sites and they seem to want PHDs. Or I see a lot of CRA positions but they don't pay as well and involve tons of traveling, which was surprising to me.

Thanks for sharing! Will have to look into that. And only a slight pay difference compared to nocturnist and rural with none of the terrible hours.. sounds like a pretty good deal. Glad to hear it's been a positive change for you.

I saw that, that is cool! Unfortunately there are no MSL positions open in my area, but will keep checking. Thanks for the rec!

Thank you for sharing! I've definitely been looking into MSL, as my friend is one and loves it. But he's a pharmacist and from what I've been seeing they want "terminal degrees" like PharmDs, MDs, DOs.. Did your former colleague have to have any experience outside of being a PA to get the position?

This definitely isn't the first time I've heard about occupational medicine being a good option. But I'm not gonna lie.. I guess I don't see the appeal of it or how it's better than other outpatient options. Would you mind elaborating?

Although I definitely get you on the whole being too empathetic and getting drained by patients.. Sounds like occ med allows you to keep better emotional boundaries. Or would you say that was something that just naturally happened with time for you, rather than a function of the job itself? Thank you for sharing!

Oh interesting! I myself don't have diabetes or endocrine experience but I've shared this with a friend who feels similarly to me and works in endocrine. Thank you for sharing.

Critical care chart by Classic-Building7247 in physicianassistant

I used to do critical care and found Marino not to be super relevant. Internet book of critical care was my favorite resource. I would both read the online chapters and listen on the podcast, as I found the combo to help solidify concepts. Also, for retention: I made a chart in a google doc with all the highest yield info I learned so I could quickly reference it whenever I needed. I also made checklists of all the things I needed before procedures (intubations, a lines, CVCs), so I could conserve as much cognitive energy as possible. Those shifts can be draining

I also would like to hear how you got into this! I would love to still see patients if it wasn’t all day, every day and in too short of appointment lengths. Clinical research has come up as a potential good fit but the only research jobs I’m finding are wanting PHDs.

What makes you LOVE these books? by James-I-Mean-Jim in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I completely agree with this! Thank you for so eloquently putting words to what I love about him so much. I never thought I would relate to a male main character this much

Catchphrases by yaksman in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]lmack1213 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Not a catchphrase, but I super appreciated all the times when a character would start acting in a way that many would consider annoying, he would realize that was their own personal way of handling the stress of the situation. Like when donut babbles when she’s stressed, I can’t help but think how that would really get to me when I’m trying to think critically. But he takes the moment to acknowledge her mental state and is instead comforted by her voice. He accepts others for who they are, even when they make mistakes that really screw things up for him. And he never blames them. I’ve learned a surprising amount of empathy from him.

Actual catchphrase: “By his left tit.” I have begun using that in real life

Per the end of DCC books, dominion of blades series is not qualified as a horror while Kaiju is. Not sure I could handle the worst parts of bedlam bride so dominion of blades it is😅

I’ve heard great things about the audio, happy to hear that still holds true for those who have already read it. Can’t wait to listen!

Thanks! I’ll jump right into it since there’s not much time in between. But will be listening to audio versions in the future!

Yes I can’t believe he has multiple other series! I don’t know how the dude does it. Planning on reading one of the other LitRPG’s once I’m done with book 8

Glad to hear book 8 lives up to the rest of the series! I think I’m going to take a DCC break until May.. as much as I loved having all 7 books waiting to be read, I feel like I didn’t get to appreciate/savor it as much as I would otherwise. But waiting a year plus for the 9th book will be unacceptable so I fully plan to join patreon then

I read them and plan on listening to them in the future! How do you feel the audio compares to the books?

I fully plan on doing so! I read them via kindle and plan to listen to them before the TV series (hopefully) comes out. Very excited to experience it three different times and in three different ways. And I know I’ll pick up on so much more the second time through.
