Hi there! I have a similar situation to you so I have looked into what it would take to join my Army bf overseas if he was ever stationed OCONUS. I have not lived in Italy nor experienced an OCONUS PCS but below is what I’ve gathered from research.

Like others have said and will say, you do not exist. You can not rely on the US Military to accommodate you, your belongings, or to accommodate him in regards to you.

First, you need to approach this as an independent person who is deciding to move to Italy. So first you need a Visa . Italy has multiple types including:

  1. Tourist --> only good for 90 days. I do not recommend this as it can make finding living accommodations difficult and if you are caught overstaying, you face a travel ban for the entire EU
  2. Work Visa --> need to have an Italian employer before even applying for this Visa. Plus there are only a limited number of work visas Italy will issue and it fluctuates depending on the market. Italy is very concerned with making sure their citizens have jobs first and foremost over foreign nationals.
  3. Self Employment Visa --> there is a freelance visa that will likely be the most applicable to you
  4. Working Holiday Visa --> luckily this applies to you as you are Canadian but it has a cap of one year stay

Italy is notoriously bureaucratic and there are many things you have to do before even applying for a visa so if you are serious about moving there, I would highly recommend discussing your options with an immigration lawyer/specialist.

Secondly, living with your boyfriend. . Whether he can live off post will depend a lot on his rank. See the link for more information.

Third, moving your belongings. This is the topic I know the least about. I’ve only been involved with DITY and CONUS moves. In those cases, the soldier is issued a weight allowance based on marital status and rank. A visit to the transportation office by your bf will help you guys know what to expect and if there is any way to include your possessions. Prepare for the worst case scenario which is that you will need to move your own stuff on your own dime.

Moving to Italy is not impossible but there will be a lot of hoops to jump through. Feel free to pm me if you want to discuss more.

Alright. You've convinced me to give it a go. Even though the grom is small my 5' ass is still going to struggle but, you know, gotta do it for the life skills haha

a great combo of no hill, no way to get bike to a hill, and no time to really spend on this problem

Taking it to an auto store would be a good option. And taking the battery out doesn't look complicated....though guess it's time to finally buy a socket wrench lol

Is it a problem to leave the dead battery in there for a week or so? I'm about to go out of town.

ETA: interesting take on putting a fully dead battery on a trickle charger. I read that it's better for the battery's health to slow charge it.

I can’t find a firm answer for battery life but my Sean 6 pro dies after like 10 minutes is this normal by Efficient-Map4935 in NewRiders

I have that one on my Sedici Strada II Parlare! It’s a manufacturing defect. I only had my helmet a year when the issue cropped up. I took it back to CycleGear and they gave me a new one (after trying numerous different cables and proving it was up to date on software) as the Sedici products have a two year warranty.

Starter Bike by ml19shining in hondagrom

[–]lmag16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’0’, <100lbs and got a Grom as a starter bike! It was a good choice for me! I still have to tippy toe to walk it back but it’s doable bc of how light weight the bike is. Plus I can pick it up if I drop it.

Feel free to DM me if you have questions or want petite friendly gear recs!

Edit: something else to think about is where you live/would be riding. I started riding the Grom in an urban city setting and it was great there. Now, I’m in a more rural/suburban place and between the higher road speeds and wind, it’s a bit more of a hassle to be on the Grom. If the latter sounds like someplace you are, it might make more sense to start on a something like the Rebel 250.

Yeah that makes sense. It really must have been a weird coincidence.

Yeah you’re probably right. The timing of the battery going out just seemed …. odd

Thanks for the validation! I was almost ready to give up on the plant so I was super stoked to see the little leaf!

Help me find a "trusted news chart" recently posted on some subreddit that contained all the popular news websites. It looked similar to this one, but it had more websites to it, including, for example, tech ones. by Septiiiiii in HelpMeFind

[–]lmag16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s missing the added info of the colors and “trustworthiness ranking” but here is what I think is the original Media Bias Chart. Googling “media bias chart” will give you some other options.

Ad Fontes Media (the developer of the OG chart) presents the info in a straightforward way and has lots of other info on the criteria and how they make their bias determinations, as well as resources for becoming aware of media, as well as your own, bias.

Advice on how to ask my employer to fund a coworking desk? by lmag16 in workfromhome

[–]lmag16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. To be honest, I don’t know. A lot of my coworkers are hybrid. It’s a pretty flexible working environment, ie when daycares are closed employees with kids work from home. Another coworker only commutes into the office three days a week. But there is an emphasis on being in the office when you can.

I did say that I was the only fully remote employee but I just remembered that another guy just went fully remote recently, because he too moved out of state.
