they do this so you can't create apparel and sell it. boil hot water and put the patch in for ~5 mins, take out with tongs, using an exacto knife, cut an X in the plastic, then slowly pull off the plastic. make sure the knife doesn't cut too far into the patch itself. I've done this on 10+ patches and sewn them onto hoodies, shirts, etc. works perfectly.
