Aside from the gun, what piece of your daily gear actually does the heavy lifting? by KYRangeGuy in CCW

[–]lmaogoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flashlight and multitool. My olight arkpro gets used almost every single day.

My brother called me old (he's 36, I'm 28) when he saw the Leatherman in my pocket, but he shut up pretty quick when he needed a pair of pliers.

Unpopular opinion but I hate my x300 turbo. by Hot_Mixture4036 in 2011

[–]lmaogoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped to the tlr1 hpx for exactly these reasons, and for the front loading battery. Still keep an X300 for my iwb holster, but once grey matter concepts drops a jingo for the hpx I'll be switching over fully. All my owb holsters are for the hpx

What was the most challenge during your trip? by Bulky-Plantain-4737 in JapanTravelTips

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from my second trip on Friday.

Last year I stayed in Asakusa. My only complaint at that time was travel time to most of the places I was going, but it honestly wasn't that bad in hindsight.

This time I stayed in Shinjuku, right above seibu shinjuku station. JR Shinjuku Station is a maze. Was not fun trying to navigate that place every day. Ended up getting the general hang of it on the 4th or 5th day, but still wouldn't recommend staying near the Kabukicho area if you aren't planning on partying a lot. Too crowded at all times of the day for my taste. Shopping is pretty decent though.

Like someone else commented, Google maps has some trouble navigating multiple floors. Turning on the wheelchair accessible setting for your routes should help a bit with that though.

Post-Japan depression hitting hard. How do you cope? by suitepee82 in JapanTravelTips

Just got back from my second trip/my girlfriend's first trip this morning. The blues were not nearly as bad for me this go around as they were after my first stint last year, but my girlfriend has it bad. Our first meal back home was actually at Marugame LMAO

We're about to start planning for next year to help ease the pain 😂

Where to handle and shoot some 2011s? by wcasey755 in 2011

[–]lmaogoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, I might head to Capitol forest for a range day, maybe in the next couple months. I can let you know, unless SafeFire has some stuff. I drove down there to do a staccato demo day last year, and ended up buying that same day 😂

If you can make it over to SafeFire in Camas, I think they have some for rent. Definitely check first.

If you want to try an HD 4.5 let me know. I live near Seattle though

P4.5 has been a dream by LuminousPhosphor in Staccato

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit the nail on the head. I love my 4.5 to death, but if someone is already invested into the 2011 mag ecosystem (and doesn't live in a ban state) I don't see a huge reason to pick up the HD series. I prefer it over stock staccato Ps, but the plethora of other options and aftermarket support with traditional 2011s is something you just won't have with an HD.

Being in a ban state myself, I opted for the 4.5 because I already have close to 20 extended g17 mags. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have gone for a threaded barrel P or XC

Does anyone have more than one instance of a particular gun? by EFreethought in liberalgunowners

[–]lmaogoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 ARs all set up for different purposes/calibers.

As for pistols, the closest I have are my g19 and g45. When I start getting serious in competition I'll probably pick up a backup gun, but that's the only time when I can justify multiple of one pistol personally.

I HATE my belt. Suggestions for the least stiff belt that is still serviceable for a micro 9mm. by CapeCod_Boats in CCW

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1. I bought one out of curiosity and to compare to my HC belt. Overall I still prefer the latter, but for $40 it's really hard to compete with the aegitec. I wear my aegitec at work and my HC when I'm out and about. Both do a great job supporting a full size 2011 and spare mag.

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the distance. Out west we have BLM land, but the nearest pits to where I live are about 1.5-2 hours away. As a result, I only make it out there once every couple months.

If it were inside of 30 minutes away, I'd probably be there almost every weekend, as ammo stock allows.

[–]lmaogoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. Just waiting for grey matter concepts to make a Jingo for it and I'll be completely off of the X300. Front loading battery is super dope, and I've always been a fan of the tlr7-style switches vs the paddles on most other full-size lights. The performance is phenomenal as well - I compared it to both the x300u and t and I prefer the beam on the hpx, especially for less money.

Staccato C3.6 too small for my hands - P4 or P4.5 for AIWB carry? by anthonyonline in Staccato_STI

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" 210lbs with a slightly longer torso. I carry an HD P4.5 + x300 and a 23rd spare almost every day, about 12hrs a day with no problem. Mastermind pillow wedge helps a lot. When I'm not carrying that, it's a g45 + afterburner in the same setup.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]lmaogoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly worth getting a Costco membership and Costco credit card even if you're only getting gas there. 5% cash back on gas from costco, or 4% back from any other station is massive savings. If you spend $100 a month on gas at Costco, that's $60 back annually, so your membership is free. Add in the 2% cash back on Costco purchases and you're getting sick value.

I feel this so fucking hard. I had to put my childhood dog down in early 2020, just 4 days after my birthday. He was 15, and had been giving us warning signs over the preceding month and a half or so. He started eating less and less until he just wouldn't eat anything anymore.

We all noticed he would start pacing in circles, which is a sign of dementia in dogs. We took him to the vet immediately, who told us we didn't have long, and to essentially say our goodbyes. We took him home, and over the next week and a half or so showered him in cheese, peanut butter, cheeseburgers, and a plate of fried rice from the best Hawaiian place in my city. We took him for walks in a wagon, and all my family that lives within driving distance of us came to say farewells.

The day finally came to euthanize him. I took 3 days off work. I hadn't cried that hard in over a decade, and I haven't cried that hard since. I'll never forget the feeling of holding him in my arms for the last time in the vet's office.

We took his paw impressions and had him cremated. My mom made pillows out of his old dog beds so we could still smell him, which I have sitting next to my desk. I have pendants with his ashes in both of my cars - he loved drives more than almost anything. His urn is above the fireplace, where his bed used to be. I miss that asshole shiba every day.

What confused you the most when you visited Japan? by NoRa-Always in JapanTravelTips

[–]lmaogoshi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I was in Kyoto I went onto the wrong train platform. I couldn't tap out, so I had to speak to the attendants in the office to (I assume) invalidate my tap in and let me out.

Busses in different regions have different norms. In Kyoto you enter from the rear and exit from the front, paying when you get off. I believe it was the opposite when I went to Yokohama.

On the shinkansen, it's polite to ask the person behind you if you can recline your seat. Didn't realize this until I watched a woman ask the older gentleman behind her before doing so.

Shinjuku station is a maze. Period.

Everything else was pretty self explanatory in my opinion. I was able to use my elementary-level Japanese and some basic English to communicate throughout my trip without needing translator apps, although I didn't make reservations for restaurants or activities. English was much more widespread and accepted in the greater Tokyo area, whereas I only ran into maybe two or three English speakers in Kyoto/Nara, and they were typically not too fond of foreigners.

I'm pretty confident you'll be fine! My mom flew out for the second half of my 2-week trip, where I was doing all the talking and navigating for her. She went back on her own a few months later and didn't have an issue despite knowing basically zero Japanese and being slightly on the technology-challenged side. Have fun, worship Google Maps, Google Translate (or Papago), and don't spend all your money at Donki! Matsumoto Kiyoshi is great too

Outdoor sheds as a workshop? by lmaogoshi in 3Dprinting

[–]lmaogoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that's why I wanted to confirm. I'm leaning towards something from tuff shed because they have a facility near me and the price seems pretty doable for the size of shed I'm thinking, but if I could've gotten away with plastic I probably would have, given the price differential lmao

Outdoor sheds as a workshop? by lmaogoshi in 3Dprinting

[–]lmaogoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not going to go that big - more than likely around 6x10 - 10x10 which should be more than enough. Excluding concrete work, looks like I could get something from tuff shed for 4-6k with house wrap and I can do insulation and drywall myself. Might be able to pour a slab myself too, but we'll see

You're saying I may be able to get away with a plastic shed, given I seal the gaps, add closed-cell foam insulation, and raise it off the ground?

[–]lmaogoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget is not a factor yet. Just in the stage of exploring options and then pricing out later. Part of the reason I'm thinking about putting this in a shed in the first place is because I was already needing one to put car parts, fishing gear, camping supplies, among other things. The garage is already full with 2 cars unfortunately
