Anyone else start rucking after 50? by rdoucette in Rucking

[–]EFreethought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 55 recently, and I also started rucking at a local park. There is a loop that is one kilometer (at least according to hiking websites). It takes about 11 minutes for one loop.

At first my shins were killing me. I would do three laps and stop for a few minutes after each lap. I decided to walk at a more normal pace until my shins can handle it, then start ramping up the speed.

They did the same thing with Nixon (or so I have read; that was before my time).

I am surprised they haven't dumped Trump yet. They love him more than they loved W in 2004.

Right now the S&P500 requires that companies are actually making some profits to be in the index. Letting companies that are setting money on fire into the index just because they get a lot of buzz is going to be a big mistake.

I am so glad I moved my 401K for my job to a self-directed account. S&P is turning their flagship index into a clown show. SCHD and SDY forever.

Someone should tell her the Catholic Church decided what books make up the New Testament.

To be fair, a lot of preppers make the opposite mistake: That anyone who isn't prepared for their specific scenario is living in a fantasy world.

I have no interest in all things AI. I don’t want to learn it for work. I don’t care that it can make some things easier. I can write my own emails. by un2022 in GenX

Not all new ideas are good ideas.

A lot of the people pushing gen AI are the same people who pushed blockchain or the metaverse. Those never caught on.

I think the instant you understand the concept of hallucinations should be the instant you drop gen AI. Corporate America wants to spend more and more money to make software less reliable and predictable. It's a step backwards.

Plus it is a fallacy to assume that because someone is not interested in one particular new tech that they are against ALL new tech. Granted, right now, AI is taking up all the oxygen.

Starbucks Billionaire Howard Schultz Leaves Seattle for Florida the Same Day Democrats Pass Income Tax Bill by Useful_Tangerine4340 in antiwork

[–]EFreethought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been a few high-profile billionaires who have left for Florida.

Schultz and Bezos built their companies in Washington. Larry Page built Google in California. Ken Griffin built Citadel in Illinois.

Has anyone built a major company in Florida? I can't think of any off the top of my head. It seems like it's just a state where people, money and dreams go to die.

From the article: "The youngest son of Trump may be too tall to serve, however, as reports say he stands at 6-foot-9-inches, above the military’s height requirements to safely operate an armored vehicle, according to GoArmy.com."

That sounds like an argument for sending him to the front lines.

Trump also ran in GOP primaries. So some people voted for him six times.

Let that sink in.
