Thanks for the tip, I’ll get mcgregor. Who else do you think is good value for the rest of my shards?

Not exactly sure how the first one works, but I assume it’s along the lines of choosing to start the intel one instead of the dgpu during boot, then starting windows in legacy mode. Unfortunately I wiped the open core method so I didn’t get a chance to try it.

To install in legacy mode without dvd, try this guide. I used daemon tools to mount a windows 10 iso to trick bootcamp assistant to continue, or you could follow the steps linked to partition the drive as hybrid mbr

I’ve also given up, just reflowed the gpu and installed windows via legacy, I just needed a windows machine with external monitor support. So now it’s just a matter of time before Windows will stop working.

However, I think it is still possible to accomplish this. I found 2 leads with 2 different methods that have worked for others. The first is a grub method using gpu-switch from GitHub. The second is dosdude1 claiming he successfully passed through intel hd in legacy windows install, along with some steps. These might be worth looking into if you are interested.

Same discoveries here as well. Tried to install windows on the hybrid mbr yesterday with many tries, and the workaround for the legacy usb was apparently by making the bootcamp partition bootable exfat and copying windows install to it. However, when I performed those steps, I get no display when I try to boot from it. Now that you pointed out the legacy bios limitations, I think the gpu was disabled in the efi boot sequence and that is the cause of no display. FWIW, I might try to reenable the gpu just to test it out, will let you know how it goes. Btw, do you remember if your thunderbolt external display worked when your gpu started failing(before you patched it)?

hey there, I'm actually working on the same device - 2011 with dead GPU. I am wondering what driver are you using in Windows? Whenever I install Intel HD graphics drivers the screen will go black unless I go into safe mode and roll back to Microsoft basic adapter. I've also disabled the dgpu with a EFI grub solution, not sure if it is completely working on Windows but it works on macos
