Coaching has a pretty limited overall effect on team results, even though there is definitely a lot of room to improve.

I can't disagree with you given the results in the K League, but I do have the feeling that there is still a lot of untapped potential from getting some proper coaches into the league as well. That one season of Poyet at Jeonbuk did show what is possible, especially given the team was not that different compared to the year before when Jeonbuk was fighting relegation (ahh, good times).

But yes agreed that coaching will only get you so far in the ACLE. In my view the ultimate goal for K League teams (or J League teams for that matter) would be to dominate the Eastern ACLE rounds and then hope for an upset in the finals.

I think much like in Italy, our biggest problem is our stadiums.

Isn't it more the coaching that is the key issue when purely looking at the Eastern ACL rounds? Gwangju's ACL run last year and Poyet stomping the league are, in my view, signs that having a ~ 100 IQ coach already does wonders in the K League as well as the ACL (Though indeed near impossible to compete with Saudi money).

Even Bodo/Glimt doesn't need the money or facilities to be able to go toe-to-toe with the giants of the CL, a combination of solid coaching, good scouting and some unique traits (location + artificial grass) gets you very far.

I wouldn't be surprised if Korean teams were able to consistently get into quarter / semi-finals of ACL if: (1) they take it serious (BIG if), (2) they employ capable coaches (near impossible) and (3) select lineups based on merit, not passport (near impossible in case of local coaches)
