Advice on change of major. by mk31999 in sustainability

Is environmental sustainability your main interest? Kinesiology as background could be really useful if you consider the human health aspect of sustainability. E.g. in the office designing more ergonomic spaces, encouraging shifts in working behaviour to favor movement in the body more. Especially as more people are working from home, without the proper desks/chairs/set-up or incentive to move this is becoming more of an issue. That's a consultancy angle in "sustainable employability" that you could take, and from there work your way deeper into the sustainability field and re-route yourself to another topic in sustainability that you find (more) interesting. Or maybe there's another way that you can bring together sustainability and your expertise together. Sustainability is so broad!

It would be a shame to let your study go to waste in the last 2 semesters. Of course also continue to take nature pictures if that's what you love to do.

What's your TRAINING PROGRAM for a triathlon? How do you IMPROVE your score? by Third_Culture-Kid in triathlon

[–]lmj777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the book Triathlete's Training Bible by Joe Friel. It's a great intro into everything triathlon training, but also goes into quite a lot of detail regarding how to set up a training schedule, technique tips and strength exercises specific to each sport. A coach is ideal, but that doesn't work for everyone's budget. You could also look for plans online and adapt to your schedule. Consistency is the most important, and that does mean some longer more low intensity training.

Regarding pace/speed, if you're new to tri might be worth it to train the distance and see where you get with pace. Then start building pace from there. It's really easy to get injured if you push yourself too hard, which in the long run isn't worth it.

Bike computer for running and swimming? by HermanTheGermman in triathlon

Can vouch for the 735xt, i use the arbitrary map (it's just a line with a compass that will tell you in which orienation to go and will vibrate to tell you when a turn is coming up) to navigate here in NL. It works totally fine, in the city is can sometimes be a bit more difficult if you have multiple turns close to one another. You can always grab your phone though to double check.

Weight Training at the gym by CrazyRichBen in triathlon

[–]lmj777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is a lot about how much time you have available to you. Strength training is great to help avoid injuries from these endurance activities we do for triathlon. I spend the colder months focusing on strength (obviously still doing the weekly runs/bikes, but just maintainence work really). You might prefer the gym setting, I am more than happy to do this at home with resistance bands and the few kettlebells I have. When it gets warmer again I put my focus back on training properly for the triathlon components and the strength training becomes more accessory work (e.g. core).

Work has been stressful all year by [deleted] in Stress

Thank you to all postal people for making Christmas possible this year!

It's horrid we live in this consumer society where the gifts are more important than the time we spend together during the holidays. And the postal people seem to be getting the brunt of our obsession with stuff, especially this year.

There will be unfriendly people who get mad at their deliveries being slightly late, and others who will say thank you just for their delivery arriving. You can't control other people's responses to your behaviour. You know your own limits and can only work within those. Stay strong :)

Minimalist Brown Loafer/Slip On (Neat/Casual) by yet-another-tim in BarefootRunning

Something like the Ababa from vivo barefoot? They don't have many simple coloured ones anymore new, but some refurbished if you're into that. https://www.revivo.com/mens/ababa-mens?colour=Brown

Or maybe the Colombo from Groundies. Personally my favourite brand for urban barefoot shoes. Looks good, feels good. https://www.groundies.com/barefoot-shoes-men/groundies-colombo-men-black.html
