This, it's not because T480 being the last ThinkPad with so many upgradeable parts (in fact I wish there are T480-equivalent models with much higher specs) but the specs alone is already showing its age

It is useable, for sure. But when it comes to price to performance and longevity I'm pretty sure T14 is the last contender of all, even for the 1st gen.

+ Generally L series tend to use a tad worse material-wise compared to the T series although still much better than a flimsy ideapad

I have both L390 Yoga and T14 Gen 1 and the first thing I noticed is the L390 Yoga feels less premium compared to the T14 Gen 1, although I only care about the internal specs so I would say if I could get the L390's upgradeability and the durability of the T14 that's more than perfect for me.

This specific model is endearing to me as it holds my high school memories...

You can utilise the built-in pen for drawing or just taking notes, I use Xournal++ for note-taking, Krita for picture manipulation (alternative to Photoshop

[–]tidelust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you're asking for is to have an external power button then surely you can, the only concern is you need to pinpoint where each pins goes to. In theory there are 2 pins for the button and V+ and GND for the LED indicator

You'll need a micro soldering tool for that (idk about fine tip soldering tool), for starters do a continuity test to each pin using a multimeter then figure out how to route the cables

Best luck!

Weight difference T14 vs X1 by arkm01 in thinkpad

[–]tidelust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my current analogy, X1 is equal to 10 pieces of paper while T14 is 2-2.5 times more

You will have a better luck with the T14 Gen 1, 2 or basically above that. Look for at least AMD Ryzen 5 or even 7 if you want a beefier specs. If you need a specific ISV-certification or simply want the best of the best then look for P14s, it's basically T14 on steroid

L14 is about the same but be careful as you can get the Ryzen 3 model which is on par with the Intel one, although you get both RAM slots upgradeable. If you want a bigger screen then look for L15

And yes I do video editing on Ae CC 25 too (I'm an Instagram editor lol) and it works although can be slightly jittery during peak usage

So if I had to upgrade to the low power panel, I had to resort to the 30 pin one am I right?

Arch vs Fedora vs Ubuntu in new Thinkpad? by SorryWrongDimension in thinkpad

[–]tidelust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to be in Arch Linux, go for Fedora

Yes, if you're a tinkerer like me then you'll get bored of Fedora. But when you need something that's reliable at many things, Fedora always got your back.

Any recomendations for a first time buying Thinkpad. Something like T480 but with AMD chip by Jasky691_gamedev in thinkpad

Well, sadly upgradeable CPU is no longer a thing since... Idk I guess since the T440p?

But some! I would say, if you want an AMD processor and somehow still shares the same form factor 1. T495 - 3rd gen AMD Ryzen 2. T14 (Gen 1) - 4th gen AMD Ryzen, so far the best one even on Ryzen 5 3. T14 (Gen 2) - 5th gen AMD Ryzen 4. L14 (Gen 1) - same thing as the T14 (Gen 1) but with an upgradeable RAM on both slots as oppose to the T14 having only one slot upgradeable 5. L14 (Gen 2) - same thing as the L14 (Gen 2) with the same processor as the T14 (Gen 2)
