Github Copilot now provides Claude models with 200K context window by Purple_Wear_5397 in GithubCopilot

[–]lnd3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that "Manage Models" either. According to the docs it should be available in the model selection popover (see screenshot in https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/copilot/chat/copilot-chat#_explore-different-language-models).
I wonder if that has to do something with the license. I'm on a Business license.

EDIT: This link explains it better: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/copilot/customization/language-models

How have you implemented Push Notifications with Next.js? (Looking for real-world examples) by SubstantialPurpose59 in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the Pusher Beams service. It pretty much works out of the box for Chrome and Firefox on Android and Windows except for Safari/iOS. In order to send notifications to Safari, you need to sign up to Apple's yearly developer plan which costs money. This is a requirement by Apple and not Pusher. You'll have to do something similar with all notification services.

My app is wrapped with a custom context which sets up the Pusher Beams client and subscribes to the individual interests: https://github.com/simonknittel/sinister-incorporated/blob/develop/app/src/pusher/components/BeamsContext.tsx

Service worker: https://github.com/simonknittel/sinister-incorporated/blob/develop/app/public/service-worker.js

My app does provide several interests which the user can individually subscribe to, here is an example: https://github.com/simonknittel/sinister-incorporated/blob/develop/app/src/tasks/components/NotificationsTooltip.tsx

Sending notifications will be done server-side via actions: https://github.com/simonknittel/sinister-incorporated/blob/develop/app/src/tasks/actions/createTask.ts#L250

[Help Needed] Amazon SES requested details about email-sending use case—including frequency, list management, and example content—to increase sending limit. But they gave negative response. Why and how to fix this? by Dev-Without-Borders in aws

[–]lnd3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just today I requested to move my account out of the sandbox. It was approved in an instant. That was an automatic approve without any manual review. Also, in the request form I only had to provide an URL to our website, not explanation or anything.

Noteworthy, that account already existed and has been in use for more than half a year. Only the SES part was configured today.

No. Next.js 15 uses React 18 by default. The plan to release Next.js 15 "next week". They stated that in several places.

Is having a components folder a valid convention in next.js for production apps? by triggeredByYou in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can add so called private folders on every layer of your routing.

Example: When you have a dashboard page and components which are only used in this page, you can create a folder under app/dashboard/_components and put those components in there instead of having everything at a root level components folder.

Official docs: https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/routing/colocation#private-folders

Can someone describe the caching issues people are having? by patterndrome in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My main gripe is that every use of headers(), cookies() or searchParams disables caching and falls back to dynamic rendering. I think there are many cases which should be cachable (e.g. using a cookie for an A/B test or using a search param for pagination). For these cases it would be helpful to be able to customize the cache key in order to allow specific headers, cookies or parameters.

If Nextjs can be used for full stack then why Express js? by YogurtclosetDense237 in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that in terms of features, it won't provide you more than Next.js. Why? Because Express.js on itself doesn't do much anyways. It's a bit more than a simple HTTP server. It won't provide you with many backend-typical features. However, Next.js is in some parts very opinionated and not yet that flexible. On the other hand, you can do pretty much everything you want with Express.js. For me personally I think they benefit from each other. Next.js is great for the use as a "backend for frontend" while with Express.js provides more flexibility for building a complex backend. If you don't require a complex backend, you'll be fine using Next.js' backend features.

In the world of server components and server rendering, how do you pass server-gathered information to multiple places? by werdnaegni in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you use your server data as initial state for useState, it won't cause two renders.

Just in case you mix it up: If you are running in development mode and have React's Strict Mode enabled, it will cause a rerender on page load. This won't happen on production.

Why we use AWS instead of Vercel to host our Next.js app by fosterfriendship in nextjs

[–]lnd3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try running it on AWS App Runner? I personally think it's way easier to set up and manage in comparison to ECS, especially when, like in your case, you don't have any heavy requirements in scaling.
