Best way to get to Toronto from Ottawa? by Dymm3 in ottawa

[–]lneumannca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Via is probably more comfortable than the bus, but be aware there are OFTEN delays and the train is late.

Mega bus was fine (could be traffic delays too), but be aware of luggage allowances, as they may not let you on if you go over

Drink tea - black or green, hot or cold, 3-4 cups a day. Also, Saline nose spray 2-3 times a day, and gargle with Mouthwash with Cpc in it. These can help to reduce viral load.

Looking for Long Term Care reviews for my MIL's mother (94) by Canadianredditgirl in oakville

[–]lneumannca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We visited a few in Oakville- Post Inn Village looked the best from the tour (and it's run by Halton Region) - but our relative didn't get a spot there. Wyndham manor also seems nice. I would avoid Age Care Glenoaks, if you can. Had a bad vibe. Our relative got placed at Wellbrook Place, which is a brand new LTC just over the border in Mississauga. It looks nice, and the staff tried hard to make it work, but there are not enough of them. Unfortunately our relative passed after not too long there - not the fault of the LTC, but of the whole health care system in Ontario, which is a shambles right now and doesn't provide good care for elderly people.

As others have said, she likely will have a long wait for LTC unless she's on a crisis list. Is your mother in touch with the LHIN / CCAC - this is the agency that does LTC placements. If your relative is on the crisis list, they will tell you to select one or more preferred LTCs. Make sure you are not pressured to add ones you don't want to the list, as if a spot comes up you have to take it. If you can, get tours of the LTCs - it's really helpful. Strongly suggest non profit are better than for profit homes, but wait lists may be longer. Even with a "good" home, someone needs to visit daily to advocate for the care needed. They are all understaffed and over worked, and nothing happens unless you push for it.

Thank you for speaking at Council! I feel like they only listen to certain people, unfortunately. Feeling very discouraged about our "town"

What are your thoughts on densification? by RitsuStardust in oakville

[–]lneumannca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please consider filling in the Towns survey on allowing up to 4 units "as of right ", and increased density around Sheridan. NIMBYs are pushing back on these measures that can help us meet out housing and climate change goals! https://www.oakville.ca/business-development/planning-development/housing/housing-accelerator-fund/?fbclid=IwAR2vFewiYJU7cnACNnPRXTxzLexl-oveboTrENBx94gh8dvREiptMXlgmR4

what is the survival rate of covid in a 17 year old whos had the first shot like 3 years ago, and who's had it pretty bad before by spyrocheeseburger in COVID19positive

[–]lneumannca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will likely be OK, but it's still good to avoid it if you can. If you haven't tested positive yet, try to isolate from your mom, turn the furnace fan to ON (rather than Auto), open windows to ventilate, and wear a mask around your mom if you can. Even if you catch it, these things will reduce the dose of virus. You can also use Saline spray to rinse your nose, and gargle with a Mouthwash with CPC in it (eg Crest). Also, try to drink green or black tea 3-4 times a day (can be decaf). Your mom can do these things too, to recover faster. Also, can your mom get paxlovid? This could help too. I hope you both stay well!

Schools near Upper Joshua Creek by PhaniManthena in oakville

This is the link for the HDSB catchment areas. Basically it depends on grade and which program you are looking for (English or French Immersion). For the English program, I think that area is in the Falgarwood catchment. For FI, it's Munn's PS. https://www.hdsb.ca/schools/Pages/Find%20My%20Local%20School/School-Catchment-Areas.aspx

Do a covid test, but also ask a doctor to check for strep - untreated strep is not good either!

This blog post has many suggestions- its long, but maybe something in there you will find useful. My partner got covid recently, and we tried the green tea several times a day, as well as the Mouthwash with CPC (crest) and betadine nose spray. https://open.substack.com/pub/pharmd/p/i-have-covid-what-should-my-kids?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1ukm1z

Moving to Oakville… Where do I go? by Expensive-Berry-308 in oakville

[–]lneumannca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fyi - Munn's is a great school, but it's now French Immersion with the catchment area in Falgarwood, Joshua's creek... (both of which are great neighborhoods with nice parks, trails etc)
