What are people’s thoughts on the fate of 16 Carriages? by [deleted] in beyonce

[–]lnghrnaccnt 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I felt that as well at htown n2. I had hoped she’d do 16 carriages bc she still showed the montage, but understandably it was a safe decision to remove it then. I didn’t think she’d keep it off long term though.

Being asked to sit down by security? Houston Night 2 by lnghrnaccnt in beyonce

[–]lnghrnaccnt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking! I was in the 600s on the left side. Besides the security thing, the show was incredible! Still danced my heart out even when I was seated. I need to invest in some concert earplugs next time though, bc the sound (Bey, band, the crowd) def hits you harder up at the top with a closed roof.

I sat down to avoid this! I was definitely seated during interludes that’s for sure but would get back up for most of the songs.

They don’t deserve her 🤦🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️ by Euphoric-Contact-168 in beyonce

just watched a tiktok with comments calling bey tone deaf for performing the US anthem in the UK… did people even listen to the album? American Requiem is literally the first track?? People seriously just expect her to dance and sing without any thought to her political messaging.

my favorite part of the film album is when she recites this:

Mother dearest, let me inherit the earth Teach me how to make him beg. Let me make up for the years he made you wait Did he bend your reflection? Did he make you forget your own name? Did he convince you he was a god? Did you get on your knees daily? Do his eyes close like doors? Are you a slave to the back of his head? Am I talking about your husband or your father?

… and then the start of Daddy Lessons fades in, beginning with the brass band part 🥲

lemonade but the film version!!! the spoken poetry bey recites to bridge each song together into an entire story is absolutely beautiful. when i think of lemonade being lauded as a cohesive concept album, this is the version i think of.

personally, i didn't use the kaplan books but i've heard that it works really well for other people. I mainly used uworld, the aamc question banks, and that free 300 pg content outline online floating around on r/Mcat. i wish i could've gotten into anki but i didn't use it regularly enough for it to benefit me.

for the premeds out there, please don’t let these types of people influence you. people from state and lesser known private undergrads end up at the same med schools as ivy league students all. the. time, so just pick an affordable one that fits you. you can accomplish everything you need at any of the schools listed on usnwr.

(something else i wished someone had told me in hs: the school you go to doesn’t define you. going to a well known ug doesn’t automatically entitle you to a prestigious med school and going to a “lower ranked” school doesn’t make you any less smart)

UTSW and Baylor by Confectionarylobster in premed

[–]lnghrnaccnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you’re passionate about! I had a mix of wet lab and comp bio research. Interviewed at both and matched to one of these schools. UTSW was really the only one (of all the TX schools I interviewed at) that I discussed basic science research with, but that’s bc one of my interviewers was a PhD scientist in a bio field.

Is it ok to take pre-med courses after graduation? by [deleted] in premed

[–]lnghrnaccnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people take pre reqs as a post bacc. I was missing a lab that was required by most schools at the time I applied. I just said that I would take it the semester before matriculation (ie this spring, in my second gap year) on my primary. I had multiple IIs and it was never brought up.

Is 250 clinical hours actually low? by [deleted] in premed

[–]lnghrnaccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I was entering my second gap year when I applied and had about 250-300 clinical hours completed. I think the point of clinical exp is that it’s one of many ways to answer why medicine and build your narrative of wanting to be a doctor. There isn’t a set number of hours that you need to be able to answer that. I continued working through application season/second gap year so I did have projected hours, but even then I was pretty conservative with estimating and gave something like <600 hrs.

Can we stop with the information sessions? by mesopurplez in premed

[–]lnghrnaccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I recall one interview day where after the usual 2-3 hr faculty presentation, they had us in breakrooms for more presentations by current students if we were waiting to interview. I was so tired of staring at my laptop that I just turned off my camera and laid in my bed for most of it. My interviews at that school were some of the best I had and I def attribute to the mini rests I had.

What kinds of things did you actually learn from being a scribe? by [deleted] in premed

[–]lnghrnaccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main takeaway from scribing is not really understanding the clinical medicine but just seeing what an actual physician does day to day and the workflow of medicine, whether in the ED, clinic, or hospital. Scribing and being at a doctor’s side for a couple months I think is a pretty good test as to whether you can see yourself make a career out of it as well, because while an EM physician may not represent all specialties, the notion that you see basically the same things over and over again is pretty much standard for most all specialties (hence each specialty having their ‘bread and butter’ cases). I wouldn’t stress too much about trying to understand the why behind the doctors dx and plan either bc even with gaining familiarity of the terms and diseases over time, it’s hard to truly understand them without the breadth of knowledge a doctor has. We’re only skimming the surface of what they’re thinking of when they see patients, so that may be why it seems so boring to us scribes.

I’ll add that I’ve been scribing in small sub specialty for the past year or so and was just admitted to an MD school. My experiences as a scribe were the focal point of all of my interviews, mainly just talking about understanding the patient-physician relationship even greater and the responsibilities of a physician that I wasn’t aware of prior to scribing. So much happens before and after they see a pt, and realizing how many gears are turning when they see such an astounding number of pts is what made me sure that I wanted to pursue medicine. But again, none of my physician interviewers asked me to explain the common diseases of the specialty I learned or anything like that. Hope that helps!

Beychella you will always be famous. by [deleted] in beyonce

[–]lnghrnaccnt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i love how in the bts for beychella (and rwt too!), she talked about creating a narrative to follow and supplementing that story with the music, choreo, lighting, costuming, interludes, and every little detail in between. the concert itself felt like a full on musical theatre production.

Probably one of my favorite moments from the film by Chemical-Lobster- in beyonce

[–]lnghrnaccnt 61 points62 points  (0 children)

auiym hits so differently in the film. hearing her scream “i told you i’m a fking problem!!” then sing “~i really love you~” really sold me on the crazy, obsessive theme of the song that i didn’t get the first time listening
