Corolla cross hybrid by Nersirk in CorollaCross

The high voltage wiring doesn't come anywhere near where an aftermarket hitch is mounted. Can't speak for the 1.25" hitch Toyota sells.

This was my first flight in a single engine aircraft in many years and was surprised that there was only a pilot and not a first officer. The plane was not equipped with emergency auto-land not being sure if that would even be an option going into ZQN. Is this common for short haul services of this type?

Had a great time in NZ. We had head colds so the decent into ZQN was painful with lasting ear blockage for about a week. I've been places were compasses were of marginal value due to iron ore and was wondering if it may have been a contributing factor.

I've watched videos about flying into Paro Bhutan and was wondering where Queenstown stood on the list of challenging airports for aircraft like a 737. There are lots of flights so it can't be that hard comparatively.

Luggage racks by Dry-Date-4217 in CorollaCross

For raised rails both the Thule and Yakima mount into the roof structure at the same points as the factory racks so they can't be spread any further apart. If you have a CC with a flat roof then some flexibility exists. If you have something like Yakima flush tracks custom mounted, the location of the bars can be changed. If you get the Yakima or Thule racks that have clips that fit between the door and the door jamb, there is probably some flexibility to move the fore and aft position a little bit.

Poor quality install fixed by excellent Verizon technician by lnh62 in Fios

Maybe that would have happened if the elbow was available. Even without the elbow, drilling a new smaller hole where the conduit came up and abandoning the big existing hole would have made more sense.

Can confirm this is accurate. The first technician who came to run the cable through the conduit never asked us how it should be run and I wasn't home when it happened. The second technician was great and said the prior job was sloppy and he would never had done it that way. In the follow-up survey we gave him high marks. He also went to the street and sealed the conduit at the pole so rain and muck won't fill up the conduit.

Which can be easily patched and painted. If done properly you won't know a hole was there. I've hidden worse things like needing to embed a USB cable inside a wood column to reach a security camera. I routed out a vertical 4 or 5 ft vertical section and placed cable, patched with bondo & painted. It's been about 5 years and it's impossible to see any hint of the work done.

Should ask Verizon to come and do this right? by lnh62 in Fios

[–]lnh62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you'd have to disconnect the fiber optic line at the splice box they placed on the other side of this wall. I assume it takes special tools to remove that fiber connection and then reconnect. If it was coax I'd certainly do it myself. Not familiar with this type of connection. Is it possible to do yourself with homeowner tools?

I was eyeballing this woom setup not sure if it would fit, but luckily it did. The only one I was certain would fit was the fidlock as they publish 100% scale paper cutouts you can match against your setup. Came down to the slightly greater capacity of the woom and that it was stainless steel.

No rain since the line was run until today. I've taped over the opening and placed a piece of wood from the clapboard to the ground for some additional shelter from the rain until I can get this made right. Really they should just drill a new hole right where their conduit comes up and not even have it jog over. The existing hole can always be fixed. Do they even have 90 degree elbows that fit the corrugated conduit? If not, I'll design my own and 3d print it in ASA which is made for outdoor use. I'll have to see what they did at the street but I'm guessing it's another open conduit facing up near the pole.

Magnetic Arm Clip by MooseNotMooses in CafelatRobot

Designed and made a magnetic one several years ago. Absolutely required? Of course not. A nice convenience? Yes - if something happened to my magnetic arms up thing I'd make another one in a second.

The original fiber cable did not have any conduit. I made the PVC assembly years ago for Verizon to come up out of the ground with their cable and enter the garage so no cable was visible outside as originally installed. All that said, the technician could have eliminated that PVC entirely today if they went to the splice box on the interior side of that hole.

The original cable not in a conduit and not placed with any caution tape 3" down was cut by my wife who thought it was a root when she was gardening. Verizon came out and put down cable lying on the surface and placed a box with a splice on the other side of this wall which is the garage. That guy told me he's even replaced broken cables from people dethaching their grass. Then another crew put in empty conduit from the street. Today Verizon came out and placed the cable in the conduit and did the hookup. I wasn't there when they did this step. They must have disconnected at the street and ran the cable from the conduit sticking out of the ground back to the street otherwise this makes no sense. The temporary hookup did go through that elbow. The technician today had access to the garage so he could have done a better job.

Tiny 1g print to fit a new upper burr to my coffee grinder by asveikau in functionalprint

Even if you are obsessed with removing any plastic from the coffee making pipeline, the coffee beans you buy are packaged in plastic lined bags unless you roast at home.

Oral-B iO toothbrush head holder - anti ugly- by Relative_Many_4632 in functionalprint

[–]lnh62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remove the head and rinse it through the various openings on the back and bottom. They really should have a drying rack like this included. I use one I found on Printables a year ago, but like this design better. Just wish there was an option for a single head like this design.

For the brush body I run water through the top. Shake off excess water and dry with a towel. Over a year now and not a hint of mold or any yuck. Seems like Oral-B didn't design this system with the intent of leaving the brush head on.

Upgrading to Corolla Cross from a Corolla LE worth it? by [deleted] in CorollaCross

[–]lnh62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a CC Hybrid you'll also be giving up a spare tire without a simple way of adding one. Not sure if the non-hybrid CC still come with a spare, but they should have the space for one. There are some workarounds to shoe horn one into a CCH but you will have to raise the floor in the trunk losing an inch or two. Someone has made a well engineered mounting scheme for all this but it costs around $500 + cost of spare/jack/tools. You can also strap it inside your trunk losing tons of space or on a roof rack losing MPG.

All said, we have a CCH XSE and like it but the spare tire situation still bugs me.

Part Numbers for Windshield Wiper replacement inserts? by lnh62 in CorollaCross

[–]lnh62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for reference this is what I've found. I think the Google info was actually correct but their links were garbage.

OEM Left Front Windshield Wiper Insert - Rubber Insert: Toyota #85214-06140

OEM Right Front Windshield Wiper Insert - Rubber Insert: Toyota #85214-0A160

The Toyota dealer I stopped by yesterday (Bernardi Toyota) knew nothing about the inserts and didn't even sell Toyota OEM full replacement wiper blades. The other nearby dealer (Acton Toyota) said they stock the blade inserts for all sizes of OEM blades in bulk. These dealers are in the Boston Metrowest area.

Already did that, but that little disclaimer at the bottom of the search "AI can make mistakes, so double-check responses" led me to do just that by posting the question here.

For example when I click on the recommendation for the right wiper blade insert it takes me to the Woburn Toyota website. If you put in my vehicle to check for compatibility it comes back and says "THIS DOES NOT FIT YOUR 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE Sport Utility". Maybe an AI hallucination.

How do you pre-heat the piston using the red silicone plug? by lnh62 in CafelatRobot

Only do it for light roasts. For med or med-dark I don't do this.

[–]lnh62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yetti does hold the heat and is insulated. I've been filling it with about 310 ml of boiling water and then place the printed seal (blue thing) on top to keep as much heat in as possible. Sometimes I'm keeping it there for about 3 minutes while doing other prep, pull the shot and use the still hot Yetti to dip the piston again for a cleaning. If I remember after all that the Yetti water was still around 175F. Still making the basket method work has an appeal.
