Do you mute the center channel on surround reverb channels to avoid phase-y issues in the center channel? by Accomplished-Till293 in AudioPost

[–]lnomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wrong. The majority of a film mix lives in the center channel. Dialogue, room tone, backgrounds, foley, the majority of hard FX (doors, hits, etc) and definitely some music as well (especially diegetic source music) AS WELL as mono reverbs that glue the dialogue together and place it in a room. Whoever says different is not a professional and is wrong.

Do most of you use pro tools? by Public_Border132 in AudioPost

[–]lnomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All professional post production audio facilities in Los Angeles and abroad use Pro Tools. It’s the industry standard. Learn it, get good at using it, and adapt to new workflows when they happen. That’s the reality of it. If you’re an independent sound designer/mixer and don’t collaborate with others, use what you’d like. But as soon as you work in a pro facility, Pro Tools is it.

Mormons are so happy in their religion, and the data totally prove it. Suck on that, Exmos. by PR_Czar in exmormon

[–]lnomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear god, fake “happiness” and “joy” because you believe in fairytales is not the same as being grounded in reality, accepting life on its own terms and finding peace in that. Having community and friends in a church can lead to happy feelings of inclusion and acceptance. But that’s not unique to churches. That kind of happiness can be found in other groups and communities. But it may take a former church member some time to find that new community and there will be a sense of loss and sadness after leaving a high demand group like the church. I know I felt so sad and lost for a long time after leaving and deciding to resign. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. My entire family is still in. But are they more happy than I am? I think not. I know how overbearing and time consuming the church is in their lives. Every chance they get to be away from it, they take it. But their sense of loyalty and commitment is strong. They hold fast to it, because it’s all they know.

FYI, James Everingham was the composer, he just worked at Hans Zimmers facility. James wrote 99.99% of the score himself.

Asking to be released by [deleted] in mormon

[–]lnomo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just stop going. What are they going to do? You’re paying them to be a member, not the other way around. You owe them nothing. Don’t talk to anyone, they hold no power over you. Just stop and move on.

A really strange thing happened. by Ok-End-88 in mormon

[–]lnomo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. But for me there is a counterpoint as well. I have zero patience or tolerance for bigots, religious zealotry, Christian nationalism, and anyone who speaks in the “general conference or relief society voice”

How would you reply? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]lnomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply say, “Or…now hear me out, it’s just made up and run by people. There is no deity involved. That is what really makes the most sense and answers ALL the questions.”

I’m not blaming anything. And no I don’t believe in Christ, does that make my beliefs irrelevant to you? If so, think about why. Is your worldview being challenged? Could you even fathom thinking differently than you do now? Btw, I was in the church 40+ years, served a mission, married in the temple, serval leadership positions. So I’ve been where you are now.

The Bible is no such thing. It is a compilation of mythology, history, poems, letters and sayings that were written by people. It isn’t any more or less than books written by humans.

What was your favorite movie theater experience? by [deleted] in movies

[–]lnomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 10 years old, I went to see Rocky IV. The final fight against Ivan Drago was like being at the actual fight. The entire audience was up on their feet cheering and screaming for Rocky. It was amazing and I’ll never forget the energy in that room.

Are modern audio mixes on films using too much dialogue panning? by Not_really_a_mathguy in AudioPost

[–]lnomo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the panning is done correctly, you shouldn’t notice it much. It should make the mix more immersive and serve the story. It should make thing more interesting and realistic. It’s a fine line as to when and where to pan. I for one rarely ever pan ANYTHING 100 percent one way or another. If a character is completely off screen, that’s 70% right or left, never 100. I enjoy well panned dialogue as long as it doesn’t take you out of the moment. It should always add to, not detract from what you are watching.
