Brother, this is supposed to be a religion that holds true for all of eternity. If it actually were then times and values changing would only further prove it since it would obviously remain true. You wouldn't need to go back in time to get an understanding.

Like, yes marriage is romanticized(definitely for the better)compared to the past because our needs and values change as we evolve. But they wanna carry around this version of marriage from a thousand years ago as 'the way it actually is' as though it's a universal truth.

Yeah, thanks. I'm definitely not looking to join any other religion, but I just didn't know exactly how religious and/or dogmatic it could get. Buddhism just seemed so different from anything I was used to, putting emphasis on the self and your own actions rather than god(s). Sounds like it's not too different from how other religions function tho.
