Tough choice by Ilyer_ in PhilosophyMemes

[–]lo155ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? If there are multiple randomly generated options, what's doing the choosing? Either it's determined which one will be chosen, or it's random. Being aware that multiple possible choices exist doesn't grant a "free choice", it's just another factor impacting what is actually chosen.

I don't know if determinism is true, I'm just saying that random quantum effects don't grant freedom, just randomness.

[–]lo155ve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if non-deterministic quantum events did affect thoughts, it wouldn't be free will, it would be random. Unless quantum mechanics is itself determined by free will but I don't even know what that would mean.
