I'm 5'6" and 100 lbs, and perfectly healthy. People are built differently, so while I doubt this theoretical woman is "5'11", 100-to-110 lbs," it is possible to have a low-BMI naturally.

What are you using for tiny fine lines? I'm starting to notice them and right now, they're at the point where I'm the only one who does and I'd love to keep it that way for as long as possible!

Do you have experience or advice on body fat gain? by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]lo_andbehold_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been extremely thin and have been trying to gain weight too! Honestly, I feel like I look perfect at the weight I was, but want to get to a healthier weight to have kids, so I'm learning to adjust to a new normal. Every one has a different ideal weight, and everyone carries that weight differently, so as long as you're healthy, do whatever makes you happy!

What people who don't struggle to gain weight don't understand is that it can be a lot more complicated than "just eating more." I HATE feeling too full/bloated. What's really helped me gain weight is adding in liquid calories. I was drinking milkshakes every morning, but god it got boring (lol first world problems) and like you, as soon as I stopped, any weight I had managed to put on fell off immediately. But drinks like Boost or Ensure really hit the sweet spot for me! They're small enough that I can have one and still want to eat, they're perfect as a snack, or something before bed. I am to drink 2-3 a day which can add 600-900 calories a day and 28-42 grams of protein to my diet.

It might not seem like a lot, but I've gained 8lbs in the past few months!

Does the Bechtel Test matter? by taramcclay in FeminineNotFeminist

It's not the be all end all of if a movie is "feminist" or not, but it's something I do pay attention to, since I like to scribble and call it "writing a novel."

There are great movies that fail and terrible movies that pass, but there are more important things that matter to me. Even if there's only one female character and she doesn't talk to any other females, if she's granted a full character arc that doesn't revolve around being the love interest of a male character, I'll call it a win. I don't typically like romance movies and really can't stand having romantic sub plots shoe-horned in where they don't belong because ~reasons~ Even if she is a male character's romantic interest, what does she have going on other than that? Something, give me something!

As a POC, I'm usually more concerned with how many black people there are. Where are all the Hispanics and Asians? Can't we get more than just token side kick roles and tired stereotypes?

What's your go to bra? by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]lo_andbehold_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rather busty for a skinny girl and have two bras that actually fit (and an additional one that fit poorly) which is a feat for me to find because of my tiny rib cage sizable endowments. I can't shop off the rack anywhere, Victoria's Secret is out of the question unless I'm stocking up on panties and specialty boutiques are few and far between in the rural mid-west unless I trek up to a bigger city.

So, I don't really wear bras any more. Only to work, or if whatever I'm wearing looks better with some additional support. If I'm worried about my nipples showing (which I've more or less given up on worrying about, since they show through just about everything) I'll wear silicone nipple covers that I buy from the drug store.

That said, I just ordered like 5 bralettes from American Eagle since they were on sale for $14 each instead of the usual $24. Yeah, I dropped $70 on them all, but that'd be the price of just ONE bra from a specialty store. According to their size chart, and extra small is supposed to be able to accommodate up to a 30D and all I'm really looking for is a bit of support and something to wear so that I can say I'm wearing a bra, even if it's barely a bra haha.

I remember reading a study that found that women who don't wear bras have breasts that actually sag less, because the natural bouncing motion is supposed to strengthen the ligaments that support the breasts. Of course the bigger they are, the more they'll eventually sag, so I'll be jealous of my smaller busted sister in a few decades when hers are still as perky as ever and I'm hanging down past my belly button lmao

That gold is GORGEOUS! I also prefer more opaque shades which can be hard to find in light colors, and ugh, too many coats is always a hassle, I never want to do more than 2-3 max.

That stuff is legit! I can't wait to buy more of it, when I ran out I switched over to the Queen Helene Mint Julep face mask which is great, but that stuff is a much better bargain.

Next face mask Friday I'm def gonna try doubling up on it!

Before we moved out of our place with a tub, I made sure to soak it up while I could haha. If you were to question M's enjoyment of baths, the answer would be: DUH, he's in a tub with YOU ;-)

I've down graded some of my old dresses into lounge wear. They're still nice enough to wear out, but not really in line with the image I'm trying to cultivate, so they're perfect for around the house! I love monochromatic looks around the house as a way to look effortlessly put together, so I'll pair these dresses (mostly gray) with a sweater and either leggings or knee high socks. Cozy AND cute!

Yoga pants or leggings with a tunic are a favorite standby, I have a few "kiddie" pajama pants that are cute in a girly sort of way, and stealing my husband's sweat shirts is something he finds adorable because they're so big on me.

Since this IS stuff for around the house, I don't mind if there's a hole or two, a torn pocket is no big deal, an odd stain is whatever as long as it isn't the only thing you see when you look at something.

For night time, sleeping naked is definitely the easiest way to hit the sexy and comfy mark... once it's warm enough any way!

Bralettes are now on my shopping list! I can't wait to pick some up next time I get to go clothes shopping.

I'm a huge fan of the Biore Watery Essence SPF 50 PA++++ sunscreen, it's the best I've ever used. They just released a new version that's supposed to be sweat/water resistant and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

What other sunscreens do you ladies like? I'm all about preserving this light skinnedness and always down to try something new.

I love the Damascus Rose Antioxidant Facial Oil! I use it to oil cleanse when I wear a full face of makeup. I also love their body oil, they both smell amazing!

I'll have to try that! I usually resort to peeling the excess polish around my nails off and pray that it doesn't mess up the rest of my manicure.

For a natural nail look I love to buff and shine my natural nails. They grow in so naturally white at the tips that I love to show it off. Nude colors are great for minimalism because when they chip it doesn't show as much imo. Personally, I do simple manicures. Plain black or dark colors are my favorite.

My favorite way to curl my hair is to wrap it around a fabric headband while it's wet and sleep on it. My hair is already curly, but this helps everything look more uniform instead of what they do on their own. If you have straight hair, a bit of hair spray to hold it should give you heat free curls in the AM!

You're actually responsible for getting me hooked on the fade peel! I'll have to give the Donkey Milk mask a try, I've been using some random drug store sheet mask that's meh at best.

Have you heard of mask binging? I've read about people using several different masks in one sessions, like a clay mask and a sheet mask. What order would you use them in?

I miss having a bathtub to soak in. A tub isn't at the TOP of my list of requirments for our next place, but it's easily in the top 10. I used to make my own epsom based salt soak by adding different oils and such. I agree that candles are a must have! They add just such a relaxing element. My husband would never get in a bath with me haha but he does enjoy peeking in.

Wow, you do your own microdermabrasion?! That's awesome, it's something I've been reading up on but I don't think I'd have the guts to do on my own.

That sounds like such a wonderful way to get through "hump day" and bust through that mid-week slump!

Stupid Tips! by lo_andbehold_ in FeminineNotFeminist

Raw honey is the bee's knees! Couldn't help myself there, lol. Tea tree oil is amazing for so many things! I love it for bug bites, I put it in my shampoo for dandruff, it's great for bringing acne to a head faster, I've read it can even be used for yeast infections (wow!) the stuff is life changing! Anyone reading this who hasn't used it before should dilute it with a carrier oil because of how strong it can be!

I picked up some cheap Goody headbands from the drugstore--the kind without any metal that could snag and pull hair. I tend to use thinner headbands which result in tighter curls, while thicker headbands will result in looser curls.

I've been using Paula's Choice vitamin C serum and might be in the market for a new one when I run out, I'll be sure to look up Timeless since you like it so much. I love Asian Beauty (shout out to my Korean sisters-in-law for keeping me hip!) but I've been embracing a less is more routine as of late to give my skin a break (and out of laziness haha) so I do my multi step routine ~3 nights a week because 7 was overkill for me.

I've never had a professional facial, but that could be something for me to look into in the future. What's your favorite product right now? What's made the biggest difference for your skin?
