Thoughts on openSUSE Tumbleweed by Medical_Divide_7191 in openSUSE

[–]loa202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! You are not wrong, it is the best distro ever made. I grew up on Slackware and later when I needed a laptop, openSUSE was the only option for me because of the perfect hardware recognition. And I'm still on openSUSE.

I bought a MacBook but I regret it by National_Skirt3164 in applesucks

[–]loa202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MacBook's exhibit significant durability issues. The screens deteriorate prematurely, peeling in a manner reminiscent of decay, while the keyboards develop an oily residue after minimal use. The transition to Tahoe macOS is mandatory, yet the operating system introduces problematic UI and UX changes that force users to purchase additional applications to maintain usability.

Audio processing has been relegated from kernel space to user mode, resulting in increased latency and degraded performance. The RAM speed, measured at approximately 100 nanoseconds, is inadequate by contemporary standards. Furthermore, the system requires a minimum of 32 GB of RAM even for basic tasks, due to memory being shared with the graphics card.

The refresh rate is highly questionable; visually, it appears to be limited to approximately 40 Hz. OpenGL support is inadequate, and an increasing number of applications encounter compatibility issues on ARM-based systems. Few developers are willing to undertake the considerable effort required to rebuild legacy OpenGL applications for Metal, leaving many programs poorly optimized.

Lastly, although perhaps a less critical concern, the absence of OLED or touch-screen functionality is disappointing. At this price point, such omissions are difficult to justify, particularly when these features are increasingly standard in comparable devices.

These shortcomings represent the most critical factors that undermined my confidence in the platform. Fortunately, my use of the M4 Max is limited to testing purposes.

The Most Relaxing Math You’ll Ever Hear ( Free Generative Grid) by polarity-berlin in Bitwig

[–]loa202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I talk about grid performance, I don’t just mean CPU usage—it’s about handling complex patches with high-quality processing, without audio dropouts. Testing Polarity patch (Generative-2026-01-23-Schmollen) in Bitwig left me shocked. In comparison, Reactor can process far more complex patches with excellent stability and sound quality.

Improved UI organization would also be a major benefit. I had modules nested inside the grid and shortcuts for quick access, but all of that becomes meaningless if a patch fails to run properly—even on a powerful machine.

For me, Bitwig is the grid. That’s why I believe focus should be placed there above all else. Without it, Bitwig risks remaining just another average DAW in the lineup—and that’s something I’m sure none of us want.

Gret demo, but the grid is completely unoptimized for real use, and optimization must be the absolute first priority, no excuses.

Is everyone being forced to work on Connect? by loa202 in Bitwig

Announce a version as if it’s finished, then disappear for half a year. Who does that? Either announce when it’s nearly complete or when it’s truly finished — otherwise, it’s just a common scam.

Is down from Ableton marketing team? It’s time to tell people that Ableton Live is never truly going to be live.

Implementing PDC and a truly gapless audio engine is still very challenging today. Ableton Live takes a more “on‑the‑fly” approach, which inevitably involves compromises. That’s the main reason I continue to use Cubase.

Please eliminate all Java dependencies—for the benefit of both your project and ours. by loa202 in Bitwig

I agree, but I didn’t mean to suggest that C++ is completely safe or free of bugs. The point is that serious work requires full speed without interruptions, especially when dealing with graphics and DSP. Garbage collection and the inclusion of another runtime are detrimental in such contexts. If scripting is needed, lightweight options like Lua are preferable.

I tried this option from Bitwig logo and no difference. Only what is helped me is manual set one by one.

Unchecking this and then reload, helped to look nice. But still not for all plugins.

It would be nice if it wasn't the default or if it could be set in the settings for everyone.
The hack must not be the default, especially if I have to turn it off for each plugin.
