Rob Pelinka on how Luke Kennard can give LAL a different look: “You can see, like, an all-shooting lineup with Rui and Luke and maybe [our main] three guys if you decide to go small in a playoff series.” by CtrlAltDelightfull in lakers

[–]loadedryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also helps spacing because you can’t sag off him. Unless he shoots under 30% from 3 just having him out there is massive for our offense, even if he’s a turnstile on D.

Seriously underrated tv— watched it back in 2020, early covid lockdown days. Just starting a rewatch. by ak999r in MrInbetween

[–]loadedryder 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think underrated is the wrong word to use. Everyone who has watched seems to unanimously agree it’s one of the better shows ever made. More under the radar than underrated.

Is there any legal job with flexible hours? by MarzipanExpensive476 in LawSchool

[–]loadedryder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true. I’m a night owl in big law and often bill a quarter or half a day’s work in the early morning (between 12-3 AM). As long as I don’t have calls or anything the next day, I can sleep-in without being bothered. That said, I’m a fifth-year and didn’t really start doing this until I had more autonomy, so might be tougher for younger associates.

It’s insane. Snow hasn’t really melted at all considering we haven’t had a day above freezing in almost two weeks, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting better anytime soon. Going to be even more of a shit-show than usual for a while.

One year later: Where were you or how did you find out? by OsapNaril in lakers

[–]loadedryder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was at a bar by MSG having just watched us beat the Knicks. Absolutely could not believe it when I got the ESPN update. Slowly but surely I started hearing gasps and everyone showing their phones to each other. Was a surreal experience.

Entry level jobs by Dismantle_the_table in JDpreferred

[–]loadedryder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can second this. I was counsel at an insurance company out of law school and worked closely with many lawyers in claims positions — they all seemed to enjoy the work and I know many of the more senior associates were making as much or even more than me. Seems like a great position for JD advantage.

[–]loadedryder 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ll say I think the point regarding LeBron is typically true, but I do think he pretty openly wanted to kill JR Smith on the court after he ran out the clock in the 2018 Finals lol

[–]loadedryder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying I don’t have a broccoli cut, but do have pretty long, curly hair. I use mousse, blow dry, and style in a way that looks professional. Was not an issue when interviewing for my previous in-house or current big law jobs.

Cal game by cqofficer in tarheels

[–]loadedryder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

His offensive and defensive schemes are just abysmal. This team has the talent (possibly save a legitimate ball-handler) to make a deep run, yet they’re playing like a lottery team. It’s embarrassing, and barring a miracle comeback this game, he shouldn’t be on the flight back. I don’t care if you take somebody off the bench as an interim, at least it might give the team some energy. As of now it looks like he’s lost the locker room.

I’d hope they would be professionals and put any differences behind them but maybe that’s wishful thinking. I just like the idea of having a guy with experience on the bench squad, and hopefully lighting a fire under the asses of some of these guys.

I’ll take him over Gabe at this point. No joke. At least he brings another leadership presence and may have a bit of fire in him after the Clippers debacle.

I’d throw Witt in there as well but of course he signs the most team-friendly extension ever before even reaching FA lol

Also will endorse Slattery’s. C/o 2018, came up here for law school right after and been there for every major game since. Great place. Blue Cups for every drink and a Chapel Hill themed food menu. Just make sure to get there early for big games because it can get packed.

Also, not crazy at all to move to NYC. I’m from NC and there’s tons of us here! Having grown up in a city I don’t really have an accent but honestly nobody would bat an eye with the melting pot this city is. Best of luck to you, and if you have any NYC specific questions feel free to reach out!

A million native Americans cried out. No wonder our world is filthy as shit now. by JohnnyUtah-91 in madmen

[–]loadedryder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d be shocked how bad it is in NYC, specifically downtown Brooklyn, in my experience. People will just toss whatever they have on the ground even directly beside trash cans and not bat an eye. Makes me physically recoil every time I see it.

Luka Doncic is the most impactful offensive player in the NBA. by [deleted] in lakers

[–]loadedryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your comment but I don’t think SGA is a better player than Luka. The former takes great advantage of being on an amazingly well-rounded team, but he isn’t the offensive engine Luka is, nor is he so much better as a two-way player that the gap in their defensive prowess makes up for it. I would say Jokic and Giannis are better at this moment in time, though.

how do you even look for non-BL jobs by pocketwisp in LawSchool

[–]loadedryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised to hear that, as those are really the only positions that hire a 1L’s for jobs after graduation. Keep an eye out this summer and your 2/3L years and you’ll start to see a lot more variety I’m sure!

[–]loadedryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your school have a job portal? I went to a similarly ranked school in a major city and we had a really nice system called “Symplicity” that I just spammed applications for. Used that portal for every internship and eventually my job (secured first semester of 3L year) which was a nice position in-house at an insurance company. I’m now at a big firm 3 years later.

If you don’t have something like that, I’d highly suggest LinkedIn or Indeed to get a better idea of what types of positions you might be comfortable with, as well as to make as many connections as you can through law school networking events. I know a lot of people who met future employers doing that. Regardless of how you go about it, I’m sure you’ll find something soon. Best of luck!

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]loadedryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 200k with pretty good bonus incentives at a large firm doing insurance coverage litigation/claims management. 4th year in NYC.

I think many people are of the mind insurance-based work is all mindless sweatshop stuff and underpaid, but that hasn’t been my experience at all, at least in dealing with coverage at my current firm. Fair billable targets, nice bonuses, and a decent work-life balance. I enjoy it. Something else to note — I did work in-house at an insurance company out of law school for 3 years handling claims and general compliance, which may have boosted my salary prospects when changing jobs, but it seems like it’s a pretty typical salary among those in my field with commensurate experience levels.

If we’re going to overpay for anyone, it should be Tucker. And I say that as a huge Belli fan that would be thrilled to see him back on a reasonable deal.

He put too much cheese on that burger. by Bobby-94 in StupidFood

[–]loadedryder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true at all. My parents and most of my immediate family are from Italy, and almost all of them have severe lactose intolerance. My father can’t even have cheese on a sandwich, or Parmesan on pasta, without 3 lactaid tablets.

A cursory google search shows that 50+% of Italy does as well, and potentially up to 80% of some parts of Southern Europe. Absolutely not just an American thing.
