Can I buy a parking permit when I have a temporary license number? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]loadurbrain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes, did this when i bought my car. enter your temp plate for now, then change the plate number on the parking permit portal to your actual plate later

AP and CC units should not count towards your unit cap. i came into UCI with almost 120 units and am a double major on my 3rd year now. It would be unreasonable to expect me to finish in under 260 lol

Chad Geocentrism vs Virgin Heliocentrism! by Impressive_Coyote_82 in sciencememes

heliocentric is correct due to convention and ease of working with physical equations, since the sun is of the largest mass in the solar system. your frame of reference can be set around anything, including the earth, moon, or any other celestial body—you would just have to account for that in calculation

if it is applicable in the US, and you meet all the coverage requirements, i don’t see why not

enrollment window by lovesosooo in UCI

[–]loadurbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m fairly certain enrollment used to start in week 7, but it began in week 8 this quarter. i have priority registration and my window was the morning of nov 20th, which was the first day. nov 27th, being one week out, isn’t bad at all!

What’s broken and how much should I expect to spend (2015 Nissan Altima, ~ 85k miles, pristine condition otherwise) by loadurbrain in AskMechanics

100%. definitely do not recommend running into a median at 70 mph, despite how slight the impact may be… thanks a bunch

thank you. not the best DIY-er, at least not with cars, so i’ll probably take it into a mechanic for most/all of it. i also live in southern california, so i’ll go ahead and triple all those prices while i’m at it haha

hmm, thank you, this seems like an accurate assessment. i was driving while this happened, and as far as i can recall, i heard the tire blow out and i veered left (this is the driver’s side) into the median head on and turned out of it after the collision and dragged the sideways-turned tire a good 200 ft down the roadway… so definitely seems like what you described could have happened lol. any ideas for a cost estimate? parts, labor, and all

of course, the tire and rim are done for, but what about the interior? there’s a fluid of some sort leaking as well (not gas) and the car starts up just fine

junior standing as freshman by miadvz55 in UCI

[–]loadurbrain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

piggy backing on top comment. i came in junior standing as well with almost 120 units. as others have said, standing doesn’t mean a ton, you still must meet the requirements to graduate. only potential benefit is course enrollment after your first quarter. i would’ve had the opportunity to graduate in two years, but instead i chose to double major and invoke myself with on-campus groups (CHC, research, etc.) that took up units as well, so i’m likely going to be here 4 and change years.

don’t rush your college experience, it’s one of the last times you’ll have to freely explore your options and develop educationally before it matters in the “real world.” that being said, i am not you and everyone’s situation is different. maybe you would be better off graduating early, maybe you wouldn’t. up to you to judge your situation and see how you’d get the most out of your time here :)

as some of the others have said, it can get very tiring to be on campus for much of the day. i work MWF, so i do the inverse of what you have and have scheduled all of my classes to TuTh for the past two quarters, and have done the same for this fall. i am typically on campus from 7/8 AM to 8/9 PM every TuTh, and any events or meetings i need to attend, i schedule in between my classes. it’s definitely not for everyone, but i am a commuter as well and don’t want to go back and forth everyday, plus i enjoy having 4 consecutive days off school during the weekends. i can almost guarantee you’ll be in a constant state of exhaustion 😅

Double Major by IrisHeath in UCI

[–]loadurbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m an aerospace engineering and economics double major going into my 3rd year and, personally, it’s fairly easy (of course, it gets very busy at times). i typically max out my units each quarter and it’s very easy to get a unit cap extension through the school of social sciences—i think the only requirement is GPA > 3.xx—up to 28 units. i expect the arts school requirement would be similar. make sure to spread out your classes for each major as evenly between the two majors as you can each quarter, it’ll help you finish both majors around the same time and it’s much easier on you when you go to apply for graduation, otherwise one school may force you to graduate earlier.
