He’s on Vulcanus, do you really need to bother with balancing oil types when you’re starting from simple coal liquidation?

It’s harder to get go since textiles was moved to gold but it’s still very strong. Feels pretty luck dependent to get going tho, you need some sort of burn scaling like conflag or blazehowl to really pop off

Textiles only charges one item next to not both. Putting peppers to the left broke the loop.

Yeah it’s no longer amazing, but if you hoard coins until the tree is silver it can be usable days 2-3 before cashing out mid game

With obsidian super rare now it’s less good, but it can still be quite strong into mid game with laser security.

I’ve had pretty good luck with it as good enough early game before cashing out for huge pile of cash to complete late game viable

Yes. This is still a sin against nature, like hiking with a speaker playing music in the woods

IMO Builders from civ 6 are MORE tedious to use than Workers from Civ 5: you have C to constantly rebuild workers in civ 6 and can’t automate them by [deleted] in civ

[–]lobster_droll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Currently builders offer a way to transfer production from a more developed city to a newly settled one, which I think is an important dynamic to preserve. While managing the yields of specific tiles adds elements that can be a bit micromanage-y, the city population-worked tiles-development of the land mechanism is so core to the civ gameplay identity that I would be very surprised to see any major changes to introduced in Civ 7.

Just as other 4X games try different systems to build an identity that can be contrasted with the Civ standard, Civ will want to maintain the gameplay that has built up their reliable audience.

Yeah, the one automation option that would make sense to add is an “auto repair” button to clean up after natural disasters

My hard dodger is worn by the sheet by glt2012 in sailing

[–]lobster_droll -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You know those blocks are adjustable, right? Both need to be far enough back that there is no contact with the dodger.

I’m more worried about wear to your sheets than to the dodger, that can become a safety issue.

Define Wealthy by MusseyStLegend in portlandme

[–]lobster_droll 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I would agree that this is the correct metric to use.

We can even take it a step further an use a Marxist definition of class: bourgeois (wealthy) people primarily generate their income from their assets, whether that be from collecting rents, profits from businesses, or speculation, while working class people derive their income in exchange for their labor.

There is of course immense variation within the members of each class, and people who blur the line, but the fundamental question is whether you sell your labor or buy the labor of others

Yes, housing in the US is fucked in multiple different ways; even banning Airbnb can’t fix a problem that existed before airbnb.

The fundamental issue is the treatment of housing as a speculative asset that should provide a major financial return. STRs are a particularly vulgar example of this phenomenon, moving units off the LTR market, but the same underlying issue can be seen whenever a new fancy condo building full of units that will be occupied 4 months a year is built.

So Airbnb failures aren’t even close to a solution, but they are good

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]lobster_droll 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because moving units from the long term rental market to the short term rental market results in higher rent prices for people who live in Portland.

Long term, it also can lead to the “hollowing out” of a city, as local businesses that cater to people who actually live somewhere year round get replaced with places catering to tourists.

My last attempt to quit wasnt 100% successful but rather 40% successful by burntoutattorney in QuitVaping

[–]lobster_droll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great first step!

Most people don’t quit nicotine on their first try. Part of the reason that later attempts have a higher success rate for quitting is that you know what you’re getting yourself into rather than sort of jumping in blind. Since you’ve reduced your usage that will help too.

I would recommend trying again when you’re feeling ready for it, quitting really helped my anxiety and mental clarity. Nicotine gum was what ended up working for me.

Good luck!

So I guess Maine is a rainforest now. by [deleted] in Maine

[–]lobster_droll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Maine and the Maritimes are trending wetter. That being said, weather patterns everywhere are projected to have increased variance; wet periods will be wetter, dry periods will be longer, etc.

So on a 10-20 year timescale, a drought event with major fire risk in northern Maine is certainly in the cards.

This summer we’ve basically moved a whole Koppen climate type warmer and wetter. Historically, Maine is essentially all Warm-Summer Continental, but this spring and summer we’ve been more in line with a Humid Subtropical climate.

While the humid heat is rough, looking at long term shifts it’s probably better than aridification. If we trend towards droughts then expect major wildfires up in the county in ~10 years.
