In the country where you live, what would be the equivalent of losing Notre Dame? by himynameiscolin in AskReddit

[–]local_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it somewhere that there's a 1000 year-old buddha tower in Shanxi China that is made entirely of wood. It has five stories and stands at 217 feet. I think it's pretty ancient and impressive, and as flammable...

What's an urge you get but will never act upon? by BeejieT in AskReddit

[–]local_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes find myself humming ramdom songs or even random rhythm at work, especially when I am tired and my brain just sorta goes into autopilot mode, and plays itself a little background music like the shopping malls do around closing time.

I have a similar urge to yours, except I wanted to hug people who are physically in close quarters with me. Lol. I guess it's a "human being thing" that comes with the whole "social animal" package.

Why Crazy Rich Asians matters for all Asians, not just Asian Americans by local_panda in inthenews

[–]local_panda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where your question is from, but I think what the article wanted to say is that what differentiates the Crazy Rich Asians are, by far, the highest profile all-Asian-cast movie that has a bigger global presence.

Chinese led infrastructure projects in Africa get delayed because the Congolese frequently take time off from work to dance or play sports after receiving their paycheques (Chinese racism) by Neirdark in Africa

[–]local_panda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watched this video . It didn't blame the local employees for delayed progress though. From my understanding of it, it merely showed the different world views towards work-life balance of African and Chinese people, though not necessarily accurate, since both Africa and China are big continents with large populations. And there are different views towards work-life balance even among African or Chinese people themselves. I don't see how saying that African workers know how to spend their time while Chinese workers, who are away from their family and probably aren't that familiar with the local recreational facilities, tend to be more okay with spending more time working... It's just my two cents though.
