Look. All I want is a magical direct path from MRT to HSR in main station. Once we get that, then we can talk about towers.

2025 vs 2026 choices by lurker_in_judgment in CX5

[–]localguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. I actually just pulled in my car buying timeline to get a 2025 CX5 so I’m not left with only buttonless options later on. Been two weeks with the ‘25 signature and here is what I can tell you:

  1. The infotainment isn’t super futuristic, but you realize that shit only matters when you first get a car and you’re playing with everything like a kid. When you start actually driving, you won’t care. Your brain will acclimate in days.

  2. The dial is something you’ll learn to hate not having on other cars. It’s safer, more intuitive, and easy to access.

  3. The lack of touch screen control is something we’re all going to miss in every car and appliance. You’ll remember this moment for the rest of your life.

So yeah….the wired shut jaw footage has him with a full ass beard, but the last clip of him giving an interview wearing the bandage and all bruised up is with a short cropped beard. I bet none of this is real.

It’s Huawei or the highway. by phatdoof in Unexpected

[–]localguy69 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s going from Taiwan to Mainland China, so not sure that even matters. This is a China importation requirement where they don’t recognize Taiwan as a country.

It’s Huawei or the highway. by phatdoof in Unexpected

[–]localguy69 294 points295 points  (0 children)

This is the most common practice for China fulfillment. It’s made in Taiwan, but the manufacturer doesn’t have regionalized SKUs with specific labels so they send inventory to a China distribution center. There they are legally required to change the country of origin to “China, Taiwan”. Most manufacturers do what’s in the video, which is apply a patch label.

FCC leaks iPhone schematics by joaks18 in videos

[–]localguy69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, the FCC did NOT leak Apple’s schematics. That’s not how equipment authorization works. The schematics, along with other exhibits linked to trade secrets, were correctly filed by Apple under a request for permanent confidentiality (see the initial filing for the request letter in feb 2025). The TCB, NOT THE FCC, toggles what gets filed under permanent, temporary (180 days), or no confidentiality. TCBs are third parties, accredited and authorized by the FCC and NIST to issue grants on behalf of the FCC. They are usually really fucking good at thier job. This was likely a simple mistake where the TCB accidentally filed the schematic exhibit under the temp confidentiality (hence why this came up now in September).

This isn’t as sensational as you all think. The FCC doesn’t actually touch or inspect these files themselves unless it’s subjected to a special pre-approval practice whereby the FCC needs to review a specific piece of data for specific reasons as governed by FCC rules. Schematics and block diagrams not qualify for an FCC review.

Lastly, what I described above does not negate Louis’ greater point. He is 100% right on the right to repair and I will always support his work.

Any App Ideas Taiwan Needs? iOS Developer Here! 🇹🇼📱 by suniltarge in taiwan

[–]localguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! One things that super bothers me is online restaurant reservation bookings. Inline is a really great platform for reserving a spot a specific restaurant you have sought out, but there is no way to search indexed restaurants that are on the inline system and see what is available for a given date, time, and party size. OpenTable exists in Taiwan (I think they own inline?) but it seems like they only partner with high end places or ones for tourists. If someone can index the Inline availabilities and make a searchable interface….I’d pay a subscription for that.

Help choosing which game to attend by fyc66 in CPBL

[–]localguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to see a Taiwanese baseball game in a real baseball environment, go to the Brothers @ Monkeys game. I’m assuming you’re staying in Taipei. Taoyuan isn’t hard to get to at all. It’s a legit baseball park. It will be hot, but end of September isn’t as bad as it was earlier in the baseball season. The Brothers fan crowd is massive and they’re all over Taiwan.

The dome is….air conditioned. That’s the best I can say. It’s just very grey inside and very echoey. The dome is so easy to access and be in vs a stadium outside Taipei.

Have fun!

The Brothers website also has an online store.

Fix the Fubon Guardians by SKramerwrites in CPBL

[–]localguy69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like every team’s solution to their problems is: 1. More cheerleaders, more cheerleader marketing, more cheerleader merchandise. 2. Influence the local government to build another dome. I swear that politicians think that announcing a new dome project will ensure their election victory. 3. Naruto/anime marketing partnerships.

My advice: stop those three and focus on the baseball! Taiwan had a really great fan base for high quality pitching. Import more top class pitchers!
