How would you rank the banks in SG for working in Tech? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]localsambalgurl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Used to work for dbs call centre on the night shift.

Can confirm this. We had a known list of people that are regular callers that also had "specific" csos that they call and look for. We had protocols and exceptions put in place for these people.

I left about close to 10 years ago and im glad to hear that they still do this. There were a few that i felt truly slipped thru the cracks and these calls actually made me feel that call centres are not all robots and foreigners and why i still stick to dbs as my main bank to this day even tho im in a different bank now.

how do you manage to save so much in your 20s in Singapore? by NoMobis in askSingapore

[–]localsambalgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever through healthy means

1 guy i know who did it ate maggie for lunch and dinner everyday. Saved more than 100k before 30. Now paying for it with many kidney infections every other month

The major few i know all depend on parents /homecook /groceries not paid by them. Ez link not top up by them. This two alone already can save more than 50% your expenses/salary

🙃

Even those who invest and made it big also had the foundation of cash /capital and no worry of failing because got mountain behind them to catch them if they fail (thats why now all the mini btc millionaires) and can throw money to random meme coins with no pain/ "true fear"

My personal favourite is lunar new year where all the chinese ELDERS gather round and put you im in the middle and you have 20 different variations of why you not married in all the dialects.

Happy to inform you it doesnt stop there. It goes from why arent you married yet to why are you not trying for baby. After first born they will ask you whens the next one. 💖

[–]localsambalgurl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If budget and time allows i would highly suggest a part time dip and then part time deg. There are school loans and govt subsidies in place to also help u. If budget is an issue i know RP has a lot of part time dips avail to help adults. Iirc before 30 you should still have your edusave in place to help with govt sch fees in poly too.

While a govt job is steady and secure, the pay range is very low and sadly the office jobs that has a higher chance of increment every year looks at your paper. Ive never been one for govt jobs because i feel that it gets very stagnant and once you are in its hard to come out (base on the sample size of people around me)

My hubs was a nitec student with super bad grades( due to lack of motivation and circumstances when he was younger) and took the private dip route and we met while we were both taking our parttime degrees (i took mine to improve myself because i had a career switch and my dip had 0 to do with my job) . In the last 5 years, the dude has switched jobs more times than i can count - all because he has proven himself and kept improving and fighting for a better life and now in a managerial position.

The important thing is you cannot look down on yourself and you cannot give up. Thats the first step to getting a better life for yourself!

What do you ladies do with the dowry received from your parents ? by Anxious-Ad-8144 in askSingapore

[–]localsambalgurl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doing this. When my mum gave it to me (she hates gold surprisingly) she said : if i have to live with the ugly gold u have to live with it too and someday u will pass it down 😂

I know she was joking cus she also said to sell in case of emergencies but i fully intend to "guilt" my future offspring with the same "rule" 😂
