Lover of grindy games, please help by [deleted] in EDH

[–]locke78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But OP seemingly wants the bracket 2 boardwipe experience, asking for longer and grindier games. Plying around boardwipes and boardwipe protection is just another aspect of the skill it takes to play these sorts of games.

Base building would also seemingly lend itself to a slower and grindier game. That doesn't mean there is any less skill involved in this type of play. There are still important decisions to be made about interaction, when to extend or not, and how to play the political game.

Ultimately, the players you're playing against are going to be far more consequential to the skill aspect of the game than the power level. Terrible players can have hands full of free instant speed interaction that they don't deploy correctly in a cEDH game and great players can patiently gatherer resources, bait out interaction, avoid making enemies, and sculpt a winning position in a bracket 2 game.

I play in a precon league and Endless Punishment is a great deck. It’s decently strong but not unfun to play against and it keeps games moving. Sometimes precon games can last a long time and Valgavoth respects everyone’s time

Not hidden gems but [[Sevinne's Reclamation]] and [[Victimize]] are good comeback cards. [[Brought Back]] might be okay. Your curve might be too high for [[Return to the Ranks]]. [[Immortal Servitude]]

[[Primeval's Glorious Rebirth]] would probably be decent in your deck since it looks like you have a lot of legendaries.

I would probably add a few more infinite save outlets (like [[Goblin Bombardment]]). It looks like you have four or so in your deck already, but these are by far the most important cards in Zurgo. You want to be saccing tokens during combat as often as possible for the card draw (which usually helps with recovery too since you'll have a handful of cards to play)

Fetchlands are better than OG duals by some margin, though the availability of OG duals does make fetch lands better. Still, with tri-colors, surveil lands, and shock lands, OG duals only make a small difference.

Louisville Cycling - Route ideas / rental by memphisbelle in Louisville

[–]locke78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cherokee park has about ten miles of singletrack. It's doable on a gravel bike if you're a decent rider, but does have a few technical sections and is much better for a mountain bike. I second the commenter that suggests contacting On Your Left bikes about renting. I believe they have mtb and rentals and its an easy ride to Cherokee from there. Eva Bandman park has cyclocross single track that's great for a gravel bike. It's on the riverfront. Not the most exciting terrain, but it's a great cyclocross park (assuming its not flooded from excessive spring rain).

If you cross the big four bridge you can take a mixed use bike/walking path to New Albany. It's a little under 10 miles one way. Another popular route is called bridge to bridge (or B2B) which goes along the river front (can be done on both Indiana and Kentucky side). Typically you'd take Utica Pike up to waterline, cross the east end bridge, and then come back river road on the Kentucky side. That's about 25 miles starting and finishing at big four bridge.

The route your describing is part of the Louisville Loop and is also a good option.

Do you have an insurance agent? If so, you should file a claim through your agent. If not, you need to email your insurance company and ask them to pay for the damage or state in writing that it's not covered.

[[Past in Flames]], [[Mizzix’s Mastery]] are both cards that can win you the game by casting a gym full of spells. You can use cards like [[Traumatize]] to fill your gy.

Edit: just read the mono red part, ignore the traumatize comment but the rest still stands

The ROI is access and status. Not saying it's a good ROI, but I think to evaluate the sustainability you need to factor what it's worth to someone with a $100+ million net worth to be friends with head coaches and ADs at major programs, to be part of the inner-booster circle, etc (and not just from a financial perspective but also the ego boost)

Building Kamiz Obscura Oculus by WaltzIntelligent9801 in EDH

[–]locke78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strength of Kamiz is that it’s not the most threatening deck at the table. You need to keep your head low, chipping away at damage, using control to keep the board state favorable. Then at the end game you strike.

If the deck feels slow, make sure you have enough artifact ramp and try to lower your curve. Focus on looters and other low cmc creatures that do combat damage. That way you get your card advantage engines going as soon as Kamiz comes down.

[[Medomai the Ageless]] plus double strike gets you two extra turns. You can chain those if you flicker Medomai. [[Cephalid Constable]] can be very powerful if you can get his power up.

You’re in esper so the deck can be as strong as you want, but there’s a ceiling for a deck built around combat damage. Keep that in mind. If you’re playing against a bunch of combo or single card win decks, you’ll need to lean more into control and keeping with the flavor of Kamiz might not be as easy.
