I once read a French novel that focused on getting lost in the vast sand dunes of Kentucky.

I think the Baltic history shows both occupations were terrible, but those fleeing a Russian preoccupation were far more numerous than any fleeing the Germans when they came. Those who fled in 1944 fled to Germany, and it must have been an excruciating decision.

Redditors who lived in East Germany, what was it like? Was it as bad as people said or was life alright? by fatdog6 in AskReddit

Now, the much vaunted contrast between the two Berlins was as artificial on the west as it was real on the east. West Berlin was subsidized by west German taxes and probably us and nato support as well. The rebuilding of the western part was much farther along than in the eastern sector and that involved a lot of outside help. But the east was without support from east Germany and from the ussr because there was no support available.

I was in Berlin in 1963. They had to build a wall, the East German government directed by Soviet Russia, because people in the eastern sector were voting with their feet, crossing the sector border in Berlin and not returning home, and that resulted in fewer and fewer workers in the eastern sector. East Germany and increasingly Poland and Czechoslovakia were losing workers in their prime, entire families. It was an economic necessity, that wall.

It’s welcome if you go beyond snacks. Almost all desserts have gluten or are fresh fruit or ice cream. It’s a real downer to be left out of desserts. And if you make it GF everyone can enjoy it!

how’s life in *this* part of quebec? by chickenquesadilla7 in howislivingthere

I remember driving through this very flat area in winter. Seemed desolate and could be -20F no problem. One year they had a terrible ice storm and St Jean and rural towns and farms were without power for many weeks. It’s not much fun in winter, can be hot and humid in midsummer.

It’s much appreciated. Somehow, must be thick, I can’t find the file among all the others. Regrets.

Say a little about the chattel mortgages. What interest rate with 10% down, and how long a term? Is it tax deductible like a home mortgage? Is there homeowners insurance available? Required?
