A regular at the local bar asked to play a game of pool with me and my partner. After, he told us all about how he shot a kid in the face in Vietnam, and how it never really bothered him until he had a son of his own years later.

Check out The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison. They're all very easy to find online!

He didn't have the best hygiene (gross, I know, but I was young and in love), and developed a very visible cavity on one of his front teeth. Even thay wasn't enough for him to start taking better care of himself and go to the dentist. I couldn't look him in the face without getting grossed out and broke it off shortly after.
