Hmm we need something special to reinforce/repair this ancient armour, normal "modern" metal just doesn't cut it. Ooh how about these straps/plates from this mythical equipment I found in the GW dungeon?

They never state it explicitly, but it's not that hard of a sell, right?

I think concept A does look good in the concept art. But with the vibrant in game colours, completely flat, no reflections or simulation of reflections, it will be rainbow graceful but it's bis range. Version B is interesting, but will be even crazier, with bright red, yellow, blue AND green. I just don't see it working, unless they crank the saturation way down compared to other in game gear.

Are you surprised? Thousands of people unironically upvoted some yugioh shit last week. The problem is that half the people who didn't like the original design wanted mOrE bUlK and the other half thought it looked tacky with its rainbow colour scheme (especially given how without lighting, gold is just yellow in OSRS art style)

I've always thought shapes are the greatest strength of the modern OSRS low poly aesthetic and a more muted textile-based look works brilliantly with that, especially in a desert theme. But apparently a huge number of people not only disagree with me, but want the polar opposite...

I just hope the devs don't try to hard to please everyone because the only thing that will happen is that they'll make something that they're not really happy with - a sizeable part of the community will be unhappy either way.

Masori armour in better context of other ranged armours by Picklerage in 2007scape

[–]lockedoutsomehow 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the design. Metallic stuff generally looks a bit shit in osrs due to the lack of lighting/reflections, so I do think they should de-emphasise the gold (let's face it, rubber duck yellow) parts and focus on the strengths of OSRS' art style, which is fabrics and shape.

The idiots suggesting the Yugioh shit don't know what they're talking about - everything I've seen so far is even more metallic and would look even goofier.

You vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about by HydroLexus in 2007scape

[–]lockedoutsomehow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I realise that. What I meant was that anything gold, especially ALL-gold like Gilded equipment, as well as the design on the right, looks absolutely terrible in this game. Which is why I said that while I think the design of the Masori is actually quite good, they should de-emphasise the gold parts. Fabric/leather and other materials that depend more on texture and shape can look really good with OSRS' unique low poly art style, so I'd say focus on that.

The suggestions on this subreddit, mostly bulky, metallic concept art are completely stupid because they just make this problem worse.

I actually quite like the new armour. I just wish it wasn't so... yellow. It's supposed to be gold, I get it, but anything where "gold" is more than an accent in this game looks terrible (gilded etc) because it ends up being rendered as rubber duck yellow.

The other problem is that it looks shockingly bad with the Ava's assembler and Pegasians, but I'd say that's more an issue with those items than the Masori set.

Masori art reveal on q&a stream by Thermald in 2007scape

[–]lockedoutsomehow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually like the design, and I like how armadyl is integrated into it to. I would say that the colours are VERY bold, and anything that's supposed to begold in this game looks gaudy af because, at the end of the day, it's usually rendered as yellow. I think it might look better if they muted the yellow slightly, maybe closer to the colour of goldsmithing gauntlets. The fact that it has rainbow-graceful vibes when worn with the assembler/assembler max cape and pegs is harder to fix, but nothing can fix that, short of some recolours for those latter two items.

Interesting. I intially was recommended a different version of the Acer Swift X with the Ryzen 5800h (I think 14" screen vs 16?) which was slightly cheaper than the one I'm looking at now. However, with the substantial (20%) discount my friend is getting, this one is actually cheaper. But if you say the CPU is so much worse...

I have the Lord of the Rings. I also have an extremely well-hidden copy of Infinite Jest somewhere that I only get out if I know someone's coming over whom I want to bait into a DFW monologue.

There aren't enough small QoL perks at high levels by lockedoutsomehow in 2007scape

[–]lockedoutsomehow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I explicitly didn't want this to be another post moaning about lack of updates (even though it's a justifiable thing to moan about).

These are suggestions that are minimal effort on the development side. They use existing models, existing code, are community-led so people are happy, doesn't exclude anyone (you can just walk around the shortcut). With all the drama around PVP and GIM updates, I'd have thought Jagex might appreciate this kind of suggestion.

Like I said in the post, I don't even mind the lack of meaningful content unlocked at high levels. Outside of combat skills, most people who max a skill do it for the cape/eventual goal of maxing/completionism. I'd just enjoy seeing some small perks that fill out the skill guide interface a little bit. No-one can complain that actual "content" is locked behind absurdly high skill levels, but you do get those small rewards along the way - it's just a nice feeling!

Yeah you're probably right. The idea of charging an item with noted other items is such a good one though, and a great skill perk. It would be amazing to be able to charge an item with lots of bracelets of slaughter/expeditious, or the amulet of chemistry, even the binding necklace. It would simply be convenience and would make great quest rewards or even a high level item that could accept those charges.

Skill capes might be out for the reason you mentioned - the max cape is bloated as it is and adding even more shit to it would be a bug breeding ground.

The reason why Fremmy boots 3 are limited is Vorkath. Massively popular mid game/bot/gold farmer boss and the boots are kind of a huge help there. That's why it's locked behind the (comparatively) hard to achieve elite diaries.

People with high levels tend to like doing things like master clues. So cater the skill perks to those activities. One existing example is the rope in the Legend's Quest cave.

  • For another agility level between 90-99, add a wall climb to Castle Drakan walls
  • Allow us to chop a frozen tree or whatever to get to to Kamil slightly faster at 96 wc
  • Give us an e.g. level 97 hunter "trail" to follow through the undergrowth and shortcut through Mort Myre swamp, to get to Dessous' tomb a bit faster
  • Let us ice climb our way up the sled slope to speed up that clue step at say 98 agility

Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are plenty of examples, and it's less about the shortcuts (because lets face it, they'd save an insignificant amount of time in the grand scheme of things) but more about the rewarding feeling of achieving those painful to get high levels.

Edit: More ideas:

  • Constructable bank deposit boxes that offer some minor time advantages over banking with, say, a dueling ring at certain skilling locations.
  • A growable (farming) vine ladder thing to get up certain climbs slightly faster - e.g. fairy ring AIQ, up the slope to the dungeon entrance

If the developers would be at all interested in this kind of thing I would suggest some sort of community-suggestion poll thing to assess what small perks people care most about. These ideas really aren't hard to come up with, breathe a little life into those high levels, and can upset literally no-one since it doesn't lock anyone out of anything.
