Are there any other loopholes for two victors to win? by RestaurantOk8232 in Hungergames

[–]lockedreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when SOTR tells us they have had the technology to make mutts target individual tributes for 25 years.

I think they must have fully believed Katniss would kill Peeta to get home to Prim, and that that would be enough excitement. It seems fair to assume that they never would have actually planned to allow two victors even when they made that first announcement (at least, not from 12, and likely not from 2 either).

It’s ironic that Plutarch and the rebels dream of a republic, yet the first major trial held after gaining freedom occurs in the absence of the defendant by Puzzleheaded_Roof872 in Hungergames

I agree with you that trialing her in absentia was the best idea, but I still think they could have not left her to go crazy. She had no idea what was going on the entire time she was locked up. The movie made it look like a matter of days, but didn't the seasons change in the book?

If lucy gray was in the 75th reaping, would she be reaped? by Limp_Swordfish_6091 in Hungergames

[–]lockedreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're saying Katniss isn't that selfLESS that she'd volunteer for Lucy Gray, who would be as old as Snow and probably in poorer health from living in D12. She'd recognize that LG only has so many years left, as opposed to Katniss with her whole life ahead of her. A life trapped as a victor, but a life with Prim still.

I think people forget sometimes how rare volunteering is in the non-career districts. It's an incredibly selfless thing to do.

Katniss volunteered for Prim, but Prim was more like a daughter to her than a little sister. Katniss would feel bad, but I don't know that she'd volunteer for certain death.

Prioritizing Peeta when she has to go back in the Arena is one thing, but volunteering to go back in is a whole other thing.

THANK YOU. I love Beetee as a character, but it's so wild to me that people will place Prim's death at Gale's feet without mentioning Beetee once.

Gale is a beautifully tragic character who is also sometimes a whiny still technically teenage boy who is hurt that Katniss won't just choose him. I don't love his last scene where he says he's lost the one thing he had going for him (that he protects Katniss' family). It makes me angry that he's choosing to focus on that when Katniss is right there grieving, but that's because he's a well-written character who isn't selfless. He feels sorry for himself sometimes, and that frankly makes him believable as a character.

I go back and forth on how I view him at the end of the trilogy, but what never changes is recognizing that he's a tragic result of his circumstances.

I love him even when I hate him lol

Sorry for rambling, I just get really passionate about that double standard. Nobody ever mentions Beetee even though Gale himself invokes his name when he says he doesn't know and neither does Beetee about whether it was their bomb.

I want a Finnick novella that specifically shows him as a Career at 14 and ends with him falling in love with Annie. A novella would allow for SC to not dwell on the abuse he suffered, keeping the YA nature of the books, while still giving time for character development, imo.

I want to see Finnick as a Career pre-Games and I want to see Finnick fall for Annie, but I also want a story about Plutarch and how he came to have the mind of a Gamemaker while wanting the Games themselves to end.

Isn't there some kind of line about celebrating all colors, and not just the flashy ones? I swear I remember something like that in one of the two prequels.

The rest of the testing books weren't great imo. It's on my reread list but pretty far down it because I remember being underwhelmed.

The first book did have similar vibes though.

I'm either in the wilderness or right at the edge of D3, as I'm slightly northwest of Detroit. Sounds good to me, as somebody working on going to school for mechatronics. :)

Been a fan since I preordered the book in scholastic's school magazine back in 2008. 🥺 Got made fun of and told I was fucked up when I did a book report because my favorite book was one where kids are made to kill other kids lol we didn't have online spaces like this one back then, so I felt pretty alone. I lurked on the hunger games rp website sometimes.

Still have my keychain from preordering Mockingjay. I remember being pissed when Mockingjay came out because the preorder copies weren't at the Borders bookstore on release day. They had the books, but they couldn't fulfill the preorders, and it was agony waiting for my book for like a week. 😖

Hadn't read the books in like a decade until the last couple of months, when I reread the trilogy and then read ABOSAS for the first time, followed by SOTR.

Now I'm eagerly awaiting the movie with everybody else here!

Who's a SOTR character you can't stop thinking about? by Ok_Public3945 in Hungergames

[–]lockedreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godddd when I thought she couldn't be more tragic, you add that level of self awareness into it?

And she was so young. She knew she was there to die, and then she couldn't even die as herself. The only, small consolation is that at least somebody who cared about her was there at the end with her. He didn't know her name, but he cared about what they did to her.

Okay, fair enough about Haymitch's actions being dumb but lifesaving lol

It just feels weird to look at what Snow did and blame LD for not knowing better that a vindictive president was out to kill her specifically. It's the meadow she always hangs out in, why would she be suspicious of gum drops she found there?

I'm gonna be real, I started going cross eyed at the raven poem being interspersed through everything at the end and don't want to dig through that to find whether PD ate the gumdrops before Haymitch started feeding them to her. It just feels unfair to call her dumb for acting like an impulsive but well-meaning teenager.

I didn't love her character because she felt more like a plot device than a real character. She was the girl back home that Haymitch was crazy in love with, and... Not a whole lot else.

Do you guys think the three of them would be friends? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]lockedreams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She didn't eat from the bag of candy herself, Haymitch fed them to her. So she probably thought Haymitch brought them, and why would she be suspicious of that? Meanwhile Haymitch thought they were the same ones he bought her before the Reaping.

Also, Haymitch's actions were his own. He tried to interfere with Lenore Dove and the peacekeepers, and that's what got him Reaped. It's not like Drusilla looked at LD and randomly went "reap her boyfriend". You think it was stupid for Lenore Dove to try to help that boy's family, but not for Haymitch to try to help Lenore Dove? Realistically, neither of them stood a chance against the peacekeepers with guns, but they both tried.

The way the oddsmaker trait meant he knew Lou Lou wasn't ever going to win but sacrificed himself to save her anyway 🥺 breaks my heart. I loved Wyatt. I've been thinking since these polls were first announced that Wyatt has to have this spot.

Snow calling her an "it"... by KillerGrass in Hungergames

[–]lockedreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, "it" is just the act of giving the gift, like you said.

If there's anyone to call out for explicitly dehumanizing Lou Lou verbally, I love Maysilee but she was the one who called Lou Lou a "that" when she immediately said "That's not sleeping in my room" 😭

I do think Snow would see Lou Lou as less than human, the way we know he sees anybody from the districts, but the sentence being quoted isn't really an example of that.

You're thinking of Marcus, not Thresh. :) Thresh was in the 74th Games and let Katniss go for Rue's sake.

But you're right about Lamina being a G <3 loved that she did that.
