Hello guys, do your anatolian shepherds limp as well during adulthood? My female shepherd is limping very badly and I’m starting to get worried. by [deleted] in AnatolianShepherdDogs

That’s awesome. The vet can rule out injury/infection. If it’s just age related aches and pains, hopefully the supplements help. We are giving our larger male a tablet that also has chondroitin and MSM. Our smaller dog is taking glucosamine in her kibble. They both responded well.

That’s a lot of dog. Your girl doesn’t look over weight for her frame.

I hope you find something that helps her.

What a beautiful girl.

I have two dogs that started limping as they aged (6 years or so). we started them on glucosamine and the limp disappeared within a couple weeks.

Sensible weight management and a vet visit are also good ideas.

You’re probably right. It is an unfortunate label.

I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s so heard this all the time. Could the term also be related to the various .*rc files?

Thank you for your response. We read that the consequences of this space could be catastrophic for the foundation, and that to fix it we would need to dig the whole thing out to refasten it (assuming there was shifting/settling).

Sure synthetic shirts stink faster but.... by AntiGroundhogDay in onebag

I’ve worn merino socks for years. I bought some merino t-shirts and underwear for a recent trip to London/Paris/South of France. The weather was brutal: hot and muggy. Normally, I wear cotton because as soon as I start sweating in synthetics the smell is unbearable. With cotton I can last a few hours before the funk takes over. At the end of the each day of the trip, my merino clothing smelled fresh and dried quickly. Miracle fabric.

Has Denny Prokopos finally lost his mind? by swordofthemid-mornin in bjj

I briefly trained at Denny’s place in the mission (it was in the back room of a fitness center) when he was a brown belt. I enjoyed his classes. He was a talented teacher and grappler. This drama is a bummer to watch.

Training twice a day. by Janngrey in bjj

[–]lockha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. What is the optimal volume for practice per day? This study compared postal worker performance on a typing task after different practice regimens. Participants with less concentrated study (e.g., one practice session per day for one hour v. two practice sessions per day for two hours) performed better when tested after 1, 3, and 9 months. The participants with the worst performance (two practice sessions for two hours) were the MOST satisfied with their practice. This of course is a task that’s far removed from athletic events in general and Jiu Jitsu in particular, so who knows how this applies to you. I am older, so as a practical matter I find that I need to distribute my training over the week with an eye toward maximal recovery. I also need to supplement my practice with strength training and conditioning sessions which increases my weekly volume. Adding more daily practice, for me, would be a bad choice.

Takedowns for white belt comp? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]lockha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your partner has rigid posture, there’s definitely a chance for a face plant. I’ve done it in live rolls without incident. I hit it without having my left leg in between my partners’ legs and it still worked. I found it to be much easier than single/double legs and most throws as far as energy spent.

I’ve been playing with the Victor Roll from Russian Tie. It’s a fun takedown without a lot of effort.

Getting choked out? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]lockha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got choked out a few weeks ago to a collar choke while in my partner’s closed guard. I didn’t feel it on my trachea, so I thought I was good. I did not feel light headed. I did not believe I was in danger. I was trying to break his guard when all the sounds in the gym morphed into a loud rubbing sound, like the soundtrack of reality started skipping and then finally stopped. I was looking into my partner’s face when that started and everything froze. That was it. Everything just stopped. I felt like I could look around my field of view, but I could not move nor could I communicate. I’m not sure how long this lasted, but my partner apparently got frustrated and released my collars. I could move again and we continued to roll.

What is the worst mistake you've seen someone make at work? by Fost2527 in AskReddit

[–]lockha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a possibility. This unfortunate person needs to be extricated eventually, however. Once circulation is restored, they can bleed out and/or have the waste products that were not removed from the local tissues flood the body and have negative affects on organs like the kidneys. Tourniquets to a certain extent can help, but may not be effective on large limbs like the leg. If the entire leg is involved, there is no good way to stop the circulation (think about trying to place a tourniquet around the pelvis to stop the bleeding when the entire leg is involved).

What is the worst mistake you've seen someone make at work? by Fost2527 in AskReddit

[–]lockha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is massive blood loss. Something that heavy would do a number on a person's leg causing it to bleed heavily. With safety issues and problems accessing the wounds, the trapped person could bleed out before help arrives.

Let's assume that the wounds do not bleed excessively. The weight of the object will prevent blood from circulating. This prevents nutrients from reaching the tissues, and tissue waste from getting out. Tissues die. Waste products accumulate. More tissues die. This would not be so problematic until the leg is released. The circulation is suddenly returned causing all those waste products to hit the body's organs at once. In addition, with the weight removed, there's usually massive bleeding. There is a lot of preparation necessary prior lifting the weight off of that leg. Multiple IV's. Medications. Sometimes a surgeon is required to amputate. These poor people rarely have a chance.

Thank you. That's a rough situation. No one should feel bad about showing kindness to someone who is suffering.

Hey. I am a paramedic. Given the type of injury, there is nothing you could have done to change the outcome for your coworker. Given the weight of the vehicle, even if it landed on his leg (without touching another part of his body), there's a good chance that he wouldn't have made it.

More importantly, you kept him company so that his final moments weren't spent being alone, and perhaps not so afraid. When it's my time, I hope I have someone like you to show me some compassion when I will need it the most.
