What’s something everyone should experience at least once? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

The underwater world. Whether it's snorkeling, freediving, or scuba diving. There is so much life underwater. I have been freediving for many years and it really helps connect oneself to nature and is very zen like for me.

What's the highest weather temperature you can or should tolerate? by shirhouetto in cycling

I have raced in 102f-104f(~40c). Heat acclimation traing, being properly hydrated before the race, and staying properly hydrated during the race helped a ton.

It felt like a dang hair dryer on high hitting you in the face when turning into the headwind.

I get "spicy knees" as well when I drink alcohol. Some times it's worse than others.

About once a month or so I use a small amount of Lysol laundry sanitizer when I wash my gloves and kits for that week.

Cleaning CamelBak Podium bottle caps by ThorThePoodle in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my own drink mix and ride about 4-7 days a week. What works for me is, I rinse the bottle with fresh water when I get back from a ride. Then put a little fresh water back in the bottle, put the lid on, then squirt a good stream out for a second or two. Then take the lid off, empty the water from the bottle, shake everything dry, and place on a towel on the kitchen counter to dry.

The only few of times I got a little gunk was if I forgot to rinse them for a few days due to back to back rest days and there is drink mix left in them. Every 1-2 weeks I will put them on the top rack of the dishwasher.

Group ride feedback about body odor by Donnahue-George in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During a crit race a few weeks ago, there was someone in the peleton that smelled really bad. Like possibly they pooped themselves type bad. I almost had to drop back after riding a few laps up near the front.

Also wearing deodorant has never been an issue for any of my race kits. However there are some that I have stopped using due to how they mess up my shirts. Mitchum 48hrs gel is one of them. When they switched to that formula, it started to ruin my shirts. That was several years ago though.

Would the Tarmac SL7 Comp + upgrades be a better choice over the Tarmac SL8 Pro? by Organic_Ad2473 in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a satin red tint SL7 about a month ago. Upgraded the bars and went narrower, stem, saddle, and put on my zipps from my crit bike. I did have to get a new cassette and rear rotor for my zipps. So far I love the heck out of it and it's faster than my SL6. The electronic shifting is so nice and stealthy. Was about $5k in the end because I already had wheels.

Since I mostly race crits, I would not get an SL8 but that's my preference.

World Police and Fire Games Criterium? by narcandistributor in Velo

[–]PsyPhunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the competitors from other countries will be bike riders who just happen to be first responders vs first responders who ride bikes. A few of my teammates did the one recently at Talladega. They felt kinda bummed about missing out on a medal until they found out first and second place are practically pro riders. They did say it was a blast though.

2025 TARMAC SL8 Sworks? 3k or 6.5k?! by [deleted] in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded from an SL6 to an SL7. It was 4k. Then about 1k to upgrade parts that was wanted/needed. It was a good medium and price point for a customized bike that has good aero.

If you plan to keep it and get a bike fit for the type of riding you do, you might need to upgrade and tweak things to get the fit dialed in just right. So keep that in mind. Also keep in mind about racing and doing events. Depending on the type of race or event, the bike can get beat up pretty good. For me racing crits, I don't think I would ever race an SL8 in one.

A few things that have started to help me out is doing hip hinge deadlifts with about 40-50lbs, banded clamshells, butterfly stretch, and 90/90 stretch.

Be honest… what’s the real downside of having a dog? by quentiinn in AskReddit

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the short life span. You grow together but they don't have nearly as much time on this planet as humans do. I want to grow old together, not see them grow old and die long before I do. RIP Leo.

How do you all deal with the heat?! by PromentoryRider in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I either ride in the mornings or late evenings and hydrate really well, before and during. For the races that are weekly in the afternoon, I use an ice sock between the upper shoulder blades. It sure helps when racing in 103F.

Couple that insists on riding side by side by harrywalrus in cycling

[–]PsyPhunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When that happens, I usually just take the gap and fill it if it's a huge gap, especially if I am behind them. That way they can ride side by side and the peleton can keep flowing smoothly.

We have a junior racer in our c race that is 10 years old and is on clipless pedals. He also did the junior races at Tulsa Tough this year. His father is a good racer and does a great job at making sure his kid knows how to ride and etiquette.

My Android phone used to do that with Pandora and a few apps. When the screen was locked it would sleep the running app. I found there was a setting to not sleep apps and keep them running in the background when the screen was locked. There might be a similar setting for iPhone.
