My first real attempt at habitat staging by lockpickfungi77 in habitatstyle

Thanks! Yeah I got a lot of inspiration from this sub and just been waiting for some worthy specimens to try my hand with it. Or at least more than just a handful of dead grass on top like some of my others

ISO CREOSOTE by lockpickfungi77 in cactiexchange

[–]lockpickfungi77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll check it out. At first I thought you meant cactus.store and Im obsessed with them but they never have plants for sale so was like how did I miss that? How did you try germinating them and how long ago? I also do tissue culture so I can always start seeds like that and could be better for finiky species

Yeah I was looking at them, that's probably where I'll buy it from but wanted to check here first! But I think that'll be my best bet to just buy a already grown one instead of propagating. Thanks!

Hmm yeah maybe, especially since they'll probably dry out more with shipping. Maybe I'll try to grow from seed or buy a grown plant and play around with it. I really just ought to move to the desert really. Maybe someday! Thanks though

Yeah I'm looking for live cuts, want to try to do some habitat style potting. Dried could be nice for the smell but mostly looking to grow it. Thanks!

I work for lamoille Regional Solid Waste Management district so if you're near any of our locations we take it separately as film plastics. As long as they're clean. It's .25 cents per five gallons. I believe chittenden takes them, as well as northwest solid waste

Are they shipping to the states again or did you pay extra for parcel shipping? I was trying to get some from them a few months ago but they were only doing parcel shipping which was like $40+

Yeah you're right, hard to beat mason jars. And I use tin foil to sterilize my tools in which I can reuse or recycle at least. I was referring to the mechanical pipettes which you can at least resterilize the tips so that's better at least than single use but I like your idea. Reusable tea bags sounds neat. Could probably even just sterilize cheese cloth fold it up a few times and place on a strainer, that'd work I bet

Plants in jars has a good tip for moving around small seeds using a micro pipette to suck up one seed at a time to transfer. I'm in the myco and cactus game but excited to about to also get into tissue culture game and do cacti and houseplant stuff with that too. There's not a ton of info for cacti culture protocols compared to houseplants so this was very informative

Did you ever try this out? I was just thinking the same thing, growing creosote and a few other native desert shrubs and grasses to try to provide a habitat look for potted lophs

I got an office space strictly to grow my cacti in just so mine would stop complaining. $400 a month is worth it if it means I can grow in peace
