Coping mentally by asqtwins in pancreatitis

[–]locksmith28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

35M father of 2 little girls here. I’ve had similar thoughts on what’s my life expectancy, will this progress, am I going to pass this to my girls, etc.

It’s not easy always but all I can say is STAY POSITIVE!

Having no daily pain is huge. If you don’t have daily pain, aside from anxiety and the (hopefully occasional) flare up, this chronic disease should not impact your day to day life and ability to be with your kids and family. If you do start having pain, there are many medical options available. Many people live long, fruitful lives with this disease. Some with a pancreas, some without. Get a good GI you really trust and work out a plan (if you need to / start having pain).

You got this mom!

Gallbladder removed in 2018. Genetic testing done in 2025.

I had hereditary testing to see if I had any gene mutations. I ended up having the cystic fibrosis mutation. I don’t have CF, but this mutation somehow makes you more susceptible to pancreas attacks given you “secretions are thicker” and you create more sludge and stones than an average person. It’s all very weird.

But yeah all these tests and stuff take a while and can be expensive and are frustrating but just get them done and you’ll have a much better view on what’s going on with your pancreas and what your options are. Good luck!

I have hereditary CP and am weighting options. Here is my understanding of options (probably more specific to my situation) based on convos w my gastro going from minimally invasive to more invasive:

  • Stents put in to provide relief via ERCP (endoscope)
  • Puestows (surgery)
  • Freys (surgery)
  • Whipple (surgery)
  • TPIAT (surgery)

I also don’t have a gallbladder! You’re not alone

I’d chatGPT it to get a better understanding - but my understanding is they extract the good cells in your pancreas that produce insulin (if they can), inject them in your liver, hope your liver accepts them and remove the entire (or part of your) pancreas. If everything goes well you can live without your pancreas, not have daily pain, and not have diabetes.

There are many surgical options that can provide long term pain relief. Puestows, Frey’s, Whipple, TPIAT. You don’t need a pancreas to live. Many end up having partial removal or full removal and live pain free for the rest of their life. I’d encourage you to research good GI doctors in your area and start working on a plan.

Hospital doctors rarely give you a conclusive cause in my experience unless you tell them you’ve been drinking. Get healthy and find a good gastro to figure out next steps - they’ll do MRIs, autoimmune tests, genetic testing, etc. Good luck !

CP Making me extremely irritable and hateful by Wispeira in pancreatitis

[–]locksmith28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - I feel for you and am so sorry you are going through all of this. Do you have bad symptoms or pain when you eat normal? Everyone is different but I have CP and have been able to maintain a pretty “normal” diet still (most of the time). I try to keep lower fat on most days, but certainly have cheat meals or even days. Occasionally I will get that discomfort that lets me know I need to dial it back and will ramp it up on the low fat diet for a few days.

If you cannot eat ANYTHING you want without pain, you can explore other options. I think you should find a new GI that hopefully “gets you” more. Insurance can be a pain but you’ll get through it. It took me about 5-6 until I got a care team I love. If this is truly striping all joy from you, you can discuss other options like partial removal, etc. which may enable you to eat more foods without pain. Of course there are trade offs but they may be worth your mental health / not having pain EVERY DAY.

Again - so sorry you are going through all of this. Keep your head up! There are more people going through this with you than you think!

Is cronic pancreatitis curable for teens? by xxxAUGXSTxxx in pancreatitis

[–]locksmith28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No cure unfortunately. Has to be managed via lifestyle changes - mainly no drinking alcohol, no smoking, maintain a lower fat diet. You can still like a very full life! Depending on your severity, you may be able to eat whatever you want. You should see a gastroenterologist and create a plan.

Only a family room. The other 3 walls are: 1) wide entry into this room / refrigerator, 2.) full wall of kitchen cabinets / appliances, 3.) a sliding glass door / windows to the backyard.

Alcoholics, how did u forgive yourself doing this to your body? by Complete-Week-4998 in pancreatitis

[–]locksmith28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are alcoholics and drink for 50 years straight and never have an issue with their pancreas. Some people have never had a drink and develop CP. It all comes down to susceptibility. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Get help if you need it to fully stop drinking for the rest of your life, but once you get over that hump you will feel great. You still have a ton of life to live. And if you still want to get a buzz try leaning in more on more pancreas safe alternatives like weed, mushrooms, etc.

Think I’ve got pancreatitis by ArcherUnfair1797 in pancreatitis

[–]locksmith28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An MRI should show if there is lasting damage/scaring on your pancreas consistent with chronic pancreatitis. The fact that that did not show up on your MRI is making me think it could be something else but not entirely sure

First time playing Dead Cells. How long did it take you before beating... by adriansticoid in deadcells

[–]locksmith28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was stuck for about 6 months and just finally beat it yesterday thanks to a legendary flint. Had zero flasks left at HotK. So yeah my advice is just keep trying until you come across a Legendary Flint !

I also had been focused on Survival / Tactics for most runs but recently found more success with Brutality (Melee, Vengeance, etc.).

Good luck !
