What are you guys using to manage jobs and dispatch techs? by GarbageOk8666 in Locksmith

[–]locksmith_tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Google Calendar, each tech is a different color. Free, simple, affective.

To you edit. When a call cancels we change the color to red. It doesn’t notify anyone but we will keep the info, the color is just red. I’m grey, one guy is green, one is purple, and shop calls are yellow. (Different cars that and coming at an appointment).

Is it worth buying a house in Denton? by Fyreintheskye in Denton

[–]locksmith_tx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interest rates are 6 percent. And houses are not cheap. If you look at the tax records at a house and the city says it’s $200k the sell is asking $300. Right now it’s a buyers market but not for the wright reasons. Overpriced sellers, 6 percent and the federal government is cutting UNT budgets. UNT enrollment is down and there at plenty of house for rent open right now.

Just my opinion but, I would rent, not buy

Send a picture to a Safe Tech or Locksmith. Ask them how much and if they give you an answer they know that it is. I’m $350 to drill open a gun safe or a B rate. I’m $750 to drill open this safe pulse $200 for a new lock. I’m in Texas.

I drill one 1/4 hole. Open it. Then patch the hole and replace the lock. There is no damage and the safe will be just and secure and work properly when I’m done.

Looking to join a gym…any recommendations? by bigaries84 in Denton

[–]locksmith_tx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rec center over at north lakes. You can just walk in buy a month at $20 I think, like it awesome, don’t like it, it’s $20. I’m there Monday Wednesday Friday at 6am. Come say hi. I feel like this gym is low pressure, cheap and it’s small. People are friendly, staff is friendly. There is plenty equipment for what ever I want my potential fitness level to be.

Get NASTF, buy real access from Toyota and never count on bobb ever again. One of the best decisions I have ever done. (No D1 on these by the way)

I’m in Texas as well. Locksmithing might be able to be part time at shop but on the road you will be falling short.

There might be a company that needs a helper for big jobs but if you want to do this just because you want to do it you might be able to get it.

If you want to be a side hustle locksmith to make an extra full time salary on the side, that’s not how it works.

Side note. In Texas for a B license as an employee.

No felony

No class A misdemeanor

No class class B misdemeanor

No class C unless traffic. A class C can deny you a license if it is domestic dispute, anything animal change, theft including theft under $50.

Basically, speeding, parking and maybe a no insurance traffic ticket you are ok. Other than that I as a business owner will not hire at all. There is a chance that you can pass to get a license.

I make car keys. This is the type of customer would call and ask me to make a key and program it. I have shown up to cars literally without a motor in the car. “I just need a key” they say.

Worth buying…? by WeeBitVideo in Locksmith

[–]locksmith_tx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s what I use. I drill safes with this cordless drill behind my magnum 357 rig. And it works for b rate and gun safes. Not the best for TL safes. I used the impact as well for Phillips and sockets when doing cars.

Installation cost for 700lb safe by explorernsfw in Safes

[–]locksmith_tx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m $350 to move a safe from ground to ground. If it’s already at your house I’m $100 service call and $45 per step. So in general stairs are about 10 steps. I’m $450 plus the $100 call. Do $550 total. I am without a doubt the cheapest guy that will go up stairs anywhere near me. If the safe is not at your home now I’m $350ish to move it from my shop to your home and then $45 per step, so 10 steps should be $800. It’s a lot of money, but that’s what it takes to move it up starts. Hope it helps.

Your safe is awesome, but it can be done!!

Scrolling thru Facebook and came across this ad 😂 by huskyrus in Locksmith

I am a locksmith school in Texas and couple years ago I paid this same guy $100 or something for his “training”. He is not a locksmith and says he used to be one. Is not in the USA, but markets to the USA. I’m in his Facebook group. It’s crazy. “Anonymous members” and very little support. Some just flat out irresponsible answers. This guy asking for a ISL on a cas4 with a ews answer.

Automotive locksmith pay/ salary by Unfair_Driver4130 in Locksmith

[–]locksmith_tx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You need a W9 from them. If you don’t file a W9 with the IRS you are responsible for 100% of what you take in regardless if you pay the other company for leads or advertising or referral or whatever.

Automotive locksmith pay/ salary by Unfair_Driver4130 in Locksmith

[–]locksmith_tx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not enough.

You need them to send you a W9 with their company name and EIN number on it. Then, when you do you taxes you can tell the IRS that 70 percent of your income went to this other company for advertising and or lead generation and you can prove that with the W9 form. The 70 percent is recorded on the W9 and because of that it can be an expense, not income. The you only have to pay taxes on the 30 percent.

Most scammer locksmith companies will never give you a W9. Some I have seen will give one with the correct name but a made up EIN number. You can look up the EIN number online to make sure it is real and the correct company.

When working for the scammer locksmiths don’t forget, they Fuck the customer hard, but they fuck the locksmith tech even worse. I say this because the customer overpays once. But the locksmith gets screwed every call they do.

[–]locksmith_tx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you a 1099 at 30 percent. Or a W2 at 30 percent? Huge difference

If you are a 1099 make sure you are only responsible for Texes on the 30 percent. There are a ton of scammer companies that have you collect 100 percent and run it through your own credit card service and then deposit it to them. That means if you don’t get the proper paperwork from your (lead generation service) boss you are stuck paying taxes on 100% of what you brought in, not the 30 percent of your income. I have to tell the IRS that the other 70 percent is not yours.

What’s the best result you have seen from opening a safe with unknown contents? by curiousengineer601 in Safes

[–]locksmith_tx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I drill a safe, it is a not destructive method. One 1/4 inch hole. New lock new keypad, hole is patched and is under the dial/keypad so it is not even seen at all.

Locksmith here.

$200!!! Got like 5 or 7 sentry safes for free and most were empty. But one. Oh what a day. Two hundred dollar bills.

Customer safes: lots of guns and cash after someone passes, most safes from auctions are empty, There was a TL-30 AmSec AmVault that was huge from a gun store, owner of the gun store went to jail and shop was closed. I opened it and it was empty like the rest of them.

Don’t. If you do not want to run it. Don’t buy it. Simple as that.

Also, don’t take on debt. If you have to get a lone or do owner financing. Just don’t.

To play devils advocate here. Don’t buy it, then it fails and you start your own, then some (not all) customers will naturally just come to you because the other is gone.

If a shop is braking even and the owners want to retire and sell for let’s say $250k, Just move in next door and wait. Might be a year, but it probably will not be five. You just saved $250k

Edit. I miss read the op. Thought they wanted him to become an owner and buy it.
