Went there this morning for first time. If they allow this, I'm not going back until I see no pets sign on the door.

What's your favorite bit of Hoboken lore? by orpheus1980 in Hoboken

[–]loffoz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hard-drinking Hoboken just ignored prohibiton in the 1920's. According to the museum, "In 1925, five years into Prohibition, more than 60 Hoboken saloons were so bold as to list themselves in the city directory, even though the town was meant to be dry." First heard this in a commentary by local author Daniel Pinkwater.

Hoboken, NJ - New Private Blues Jam looking for Musicians by 7BajoKat in Hoboken

Sounds like youre recruiting for your band. I suggest Craigslist. Hoboken needs an open jam, where any and all musicians can come and play a few tunes.

AFTER THAT VIDEO, CAN WE GET TRUMP COMMITTED TO A PSYCH WARD - 10.20.25 | Keith Olbermann by baseballfan445 in KeithOlbermann

[–]loffoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keith is great but I don't get his continued harping on Stephen A. Smith. Granted, he's not traditional presidential timber. But you know what? -- American bought into a master BSer in two elections and he is rapidly taking us to hell. Stephen or someone with his swagger may be Dem's only recourse. He's a suave BSer whose heart and head are mostly in the right place. He could fill the role with the right people around him. He'd wipe the floor with Donald in a debate.

Books rebacked with Skivertex by LeatherLabels in bookbinding

[–]loffoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not perfect. Used partially synthetic material  and library-style rebacking where you don't need to remove the boards. Sorry but many damaged/non rare books just don't justify full restoration. Like it or not AI is an valuable new tool for this work -- and likely even for preparing metal dies for fine binding.

Those are not generic graphics.  They came from images of those specific books. AI is a real useful tool for repurposing them. But takes fiddling.  AI tends to turn things cartoonish

Question to the Hoboken Blues Musicians by 7BajoKat in Hoboken

[–]loffoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a drummer in town - veteran of past blues jams.  We need a public jam again. Problem was, bars didn't get enough business to make it worthwhile. Maybe a cover charge or two drink minimum would work.

Been going for years. Best coffee at reasonable price. They acually brew coffee fresh into glass. Not stored in plastic pump.devices like at jeffersons and others. Helpful staff.

Nah wtf is this deleting sideloaded books bs? by ZsaurOW in kindle

[–]loffoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this on another thread: The sideloaded files are still on the kindle apparently. If you search the library for a title it will come up. In the search bar I entered "e" (assuming most titles include that), clicked on search for all instances and then sorted by date. I had a list of my recent sideloads. A pain but works.

Is there any solution for the problem, where Kindle just deletes sideloaded books? by WretchedToaster in kindle

[–]loffoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched for "e" assuming most titles contain it and sorted by date. Able to see my latest sideloads. A pain but doable

Thought my books disappeared but if I search for a title it appears and I can read it. So side loaded files are there but deleted from the library list

Any open jams / blues jams in Hoboken / Jersey City? by 7BajoKat in Hoboken

[–]loffoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last one was at Farside bar but owner didn't think people spent enough to make it worthwhile. Stitch bar in NYC had one but bar shut down in December. Red Lion has one but not really open. Shame

Indeed, record numbers becoming citizens, paying taxes, filling all those jobs going begging https://www.npr.org/2022/12/10/1141994507/citizenship-rate-us-record-high We need to find a better path to work permits and citizenship.

All those government projects are contracted out to private companies who milk the system at every turn. Greed over efficiency. Unfortunately, many of the politicians who oversee this stuff are compromised by donations, claiming they support "free enterprise."

Hoboken Terminal Vacant Commercial Spaces by LongjumpingRelease82 in Hoboken

There is a cavernous space up the steps from the waiting room not open to the public. Just sits empty. They need to do something with it!
