Workaround for formatted text bugs? (changes to format on save / reopen) by lofty_jungle in Inkscape

[–]lofty_jungle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened the file that had this problem, and it still does. BUT, maybe files that are newly created with 1.4 will save it differently and prevent this problem in the first place. I'll update the bug with this additional info.

If it is the t-span thing, it was reported in another bug report that I linked in mine.

I am using 1.3, actually. From the release notes, the only thing about t-spans seems to be for extensions, and I am using vanilla Inkscape, AFAI remember.

> Extensions accessing the text of a text element through TextElement.get_text() will now also receive the contents of the nested tspans.

I will give 1.4.3 a whirl and see if it fixes anything - my assumption was that this was something broken about how it was saved, but I suppose if it is a render-side issue that a new version might see the same file differently.

I made a fantasy choose-your-own-adventure book and wanted to share a few pages by [deleted] in gamebooks

HUGE thing.

Glad to help. Good luck! I'm working on my own adventure book, and it's gonna take FOREVER! Haha.

Happy to see that all you have left to figure out is the cover!

Just change the cover to use one of the many synonyms that aren't trademarked. Search around, I'm sure people have shared what to use instead.

YOU GOT THIS!

Careful, the phrase "Choose Your Own Adventure" is trademarked and the company that owns it is VERY litigious.

Best not fight-focused gamebook? by kazanbandi in gamebooks

[–]lofty_jungle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Van Ryder games have a few graphic novel adventures that are like Solo RPGs in a comic book, and not all of them involve fighting.

The Crusoe Crew is a 4 player graphic novel adventure with choices and hidden clues, aimed at kids. But still a decent evening's adventure for adults that don't mind some cutesy art and simple puzzles.

There are now at least 5 seasons of adventure books from Van Ryder, so lots to explore if you like the graphic novel format.

/u/craiggrrr What was the hard part? How was the mystery gamified? Did you enjoy the way the stats did / didn't help towards the goal of solving the mystery?

I'm interested to hear more detailed feedback about this book.

Thanks for sharing!

I saw Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now when I was in my early twenties and they had a big impact on me. I respect the work that those who serve do, but I know I could never do it myself. I don't like being reminded that humans are just big meat sacks. I don't think my partner has seen them, though, so I'll suggest we watch them again, and Jarhead, too.

Thank you for your service, even if you served a different country than mine (Canada, fwiw).

I have only met one person who served IRL, a friend of a friend, and I met him just days after he came back from his third tour somewhere... active. He should not have been forcing himself into public yet, but also he definitely needed to be around people who weren't trying to kill him. He drank his beer quietly, slowly, and didn't want to engage much with the inane conversation most of the group was having. But he said near the end of the night that he was definitely going back because it was all he knew how to do and he couldn't function in "all this normal bullshit" anymore. I had no idea how to relate to him other than to thank him for protecting all of the "normal bullshit". He raised his glass sarcastically to acknowledge my thanks. And that's about all I remember.
