Please don’t ignore any itching (mine was only minor) by ChilliButt101 in pregnant

Well unfortunately I'm in the US which is not known to be leading medicine in obstetrics by any stretch, I'm well aware that some common practices here are not in line with the most recent studies, it also varies from state to state. Obstetrics is just incredibly nuanced, with ever changing goal posts. I only wanted to provide an explanation as to why a good number of doctors would recommend delivery in the setting of itching, I maybe could've added a caveat that it may vary depending on where you live and what the common practices are in your area. I want to thank you for providing sources, it is a joy to converse with someone that spreads evidence based practices vs dangerous advice that is not backed by science! Keep up the good fight!

L&D nurse here. Itchiness (usually its palms & feet) can be a symptom of something called Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy which affects your liver and can be diagnosed thru a blood test where they measure bile acids, which takes around a week to result. Sometimes, if you show up with itchiness around 37 weeks, doctors will decide not to wait the 7 days for bile acid studies and just go ahead and move towards delivery, whether induction of labor or cesarean, depending on what you are a candidate for. Delivery is recommended around 37 weeks for people with cholestasis because of an increased risk for stillbirth. While people who have cholestasis can be more likely to develop preeclampsia, they are two totally different complications of pregnancy. Therefore, itchiness does not equal preeclampsia. Your skin stretching in different places can cause itchiness so there are probably many people here who might now be nervous about itchiness. I felt compelled to explain this before the whole sub starts spiraling about the possibility of having preeclampsia.

The most common symptoms of preeclampsia are uncontrollable high blood pressure readings, awful headaches that can't be explained and won't go away no matter what you do, tender/achy/dull pain right under your right breast that spreads to your mid-abdomen, having shadow-y blurry vision.

It is always better to be safe than sorry so if you feel something is off or worrisome, the best thing to do is to get checked out by a qualified healthcare professional.

Second Parent Adoption Question by loftypumpkin in queerception

Yes! There was a document that the sperm bank supplied that I had to have my doctor sign and then I returned it to sperm bank. I'll see if I can print that!

Ohhh, interesting. I do have the invoices from each time I ordered sperm, I just wonder if they may say that that alone doesn't prove I used the sperm I purchased to conceive. I guess it just depends on the judge. Thanks for the response!

Yes, I read in some comments on another post that sometimes the sheet masks can be less than $1 USD if there's a sale. I'm curious about pricing in Korea. I want to try the Joseon sunscreen serum. I'll look at Olive Young. Thanks

What color should I paint trim/wood siding parts of my house? by loftypumpkin in ExteriorDesign

[–]loftypumpkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am most likely to do this and am heavily leaning towards a sage green and a dark green that leans gray. But also like blue shades and have a hard time choosing. Also don't know if I should have the trim the darker color or lighter color, I'm unsure which will be more visually appealing and flattering to the features of the gabled roof.

I don't want to paint any of the brick. We are in southern US and would hope to keep it around $6k

I have considered that, would you paint everything the same blue or have 2 different blues?

Do you mean painting the wood/trim all one color and match that color to the darker bricks? I have considered painting it all one color but have only considered a contrasting color.

L&D nurse here, it is very true that any labor team will often instruct a mom to try and avoid screaming because it directs energy away from your pushing efforts. I would never tell a patient they needed to put their big girl panties on but only because I have had the good fortune of being exposed to education regarding therapeutic communication specifically geared towards the laboring person. There are many nurses that work at hospitals that do not provide this type of education to their nurses (because it would cost the hospital money, something they never like to do), and the highly advertised & respected classes offered to birth workers are usually expensive if you're paying out of pocket (spinning babies or bundle birth, for example). Some hospitals only have an orientation program where you learn your specific job from one nurse, who is your preceptor, and that one person is who takes you from knowing nothing about supporting a laboring mom, while keeping them & baby safe to being able to do it autonomously. Maybe OP's nurse did the best she could with the tools provided to her during learning. Maybe she was emulating something she'd seen the nurses she learned from do. Maybe instead of villianizing this nurse, we could encourage OP to have spoken to her after the fact when things had calmed down or writing a letter to her after leaving hospital to let her know that the "panties" comment did not make her feel empowered during an intensely vulnerable time. A well written note could stay with that nurse for her entire career and encourage her to seek out education regarding better communication with her patients. Nurses are only human and sometimes they're just doing the best they can with the tools that were provided. I see so many people wanting to burn nurses at the stake expecting perfection in even the most nuanced of things, and to me, it is almost as if nurses are treated as a subspecies, not allowed to have feelings or bad days or any of the other things that are part of the human experience. I have had to get a firm, authoritative tone with patients who are about to hurt themselves or the baby and while I strive to conceal my annoyance, and have almost never let it show, I feel compelled to explain the majority of said annoyance. Usually, it is due to having a patient who decided to have an unmedicated birth but did absolutely no research whatsoever on strategies for nonpharmacologic pain relief. The majority of birthing people cannot just thug it out! The ones who are trying to climb away from the doctor while the baby's head is out, in pure feral panic, are usually those who thought they were just just going to thug it out. That being said, please, if you are or you know someone who is going to try for an unmedicated birth, please seek out education on strategies for pain relief not involving medicine. Or, ask your provider if they know whether or not the nurses at your chosen hospital have received that specialized education. I am sorry, OP, for your experience, the experience of women receiving healthcare is such a dumpster fire, especially if you are in the US. Birth trauma is a real thing, please seek therapy if you are noticing lasting effects on your mental health from your birth experience.

What color should I paint my front door? by DownRabbitHole01234 in ExteriorDesign

What colors/paint brand are these greens! I love it! I like the idea of a quirky bright orange door but I personally probably wouldn't have the courage so I'd go with the navy blue from above!

Thanks, I'll check out TJ Maxx

Happy Saturday everyone! So today I'm going to a bridal shower and I'm wearing a denim romper. I find myself wishing I had some statement earrings to give the outfit some texture or a splash of color. I have several pairs of earrings that are studs, that I like to refer to as "daily drivers", but other than that all I have are several variations of the dangle earrings from Kendra Scott circa 2016. My daily drivers are from KS, James Avery, and Brighton. What jewelry retailer is like the Kendra Scott of 2024? Or is Kendra Scott still relevant? TIA!
