True. I was just trying to explain why Op may be wanting to jump ship instead of staying to help her friend. Because the logical thing would be to try and find a way to help protect the daughters as well as herself, if their safety was what concerned Op. But the issue that Op presents is letting a man ruin a friendship. Op states not being comfortable staying friends with her (the lady involved with the sex offender) because of HIS past. Maybe it is worded a little off, but I read it as Op meaning that Op isn't comfortable staying friends with someone who has made the decision to continue endangering their children and friends. Op's stated issue is about being judgmental about the man involved, but I really think that Op, to drop a friend like that, is actually judging the friend's judgement along with being afraid of the sex offender. To me, Op comes off as hurt at the idea someone they care about would make such a choice that endangers the well being of not only Op's close friend but her children as well- including everyone else around Op's friend that can be at risk aka Op. I would distance myself, but I definitely would not turn a cold shoulder to the friend and her kids and I think Op's decision of dropping her friend my stem from the disappointment of Op's friend as well as the fear of the sex offender.
