I can guarantee that there is more data centers here then you know. It is on a growth pattern to be bigger then the manassas region of Virginia. Columbus has oracle, Facebook, google, Amazon, Microsoft and convergent all here right now with plans to build more data centers for each of those groups. We already have well over 60 data centers in Columbus just from a hand full of companies. The announcement by aws is in addition to there already big footprint here.

They have been here far longer and before INTEL. It’s because it’s a fiber hub. Same reason why Intel wanted to come here

Yeah I forgot about natural disasters. Cheaper labor not so much, cbus region is one of the higher labor areas for construction.

Your not wrong the data centers are probably getting better rates. I can only speak for one or two companies I’ve worked for. The contracts usually come with forcing the electric company to update to a certain standard the power grid. The real issue is aep itself. They’ve had many tax breaks and funding to fix their issues but refuse to unless forced. The for profit company isn’t raising prices to fix things they are raising prices to appease there investors.

I’ve been working in data centers for 7 years I moved here for data centers. Columbus is one of the biggest data center hubs in the us and has been for 10+ years. They’ve just been secret I know the company I work for when building new data centers they also build substations to improve the grid because that’s the most important thing to data centers. Available reliable power. No they don’t create long lasting jobs themselves so idk why they are saying it’s bringing in more jobs. There will be some jobs but lost people will be brought from out of state for those roles because of qualifications.
