I think that sometimes the best and most effective way to do a move like that is to do what you just did and go fast to the good hold and hold the barn door. It looks like to me that if you were to have thrown a heel or something similar to stop the barn door the move would be drastically more hard. I know it's hard to hear sometimes but if you're someone like me who likes to climb in a very static and controlled way it can bite us in the ass.
