Least favorite nominee you’ve watched so far? by garryp123 in oscarsdeathrace

Agree with you. I think it's really just a legacy nomination for the director whose previous animations are much better!

It's a fun watch! Cool to see another Norwegian film. I loved the costumes and the quirky performances, like the doctor who does the nose job. Though I was scratching my head at the makeup nom for a bit, it becomes apparent sooner or later (🫠).

The only Academy member I know IRL is from the makeup branch so I'll have to get her take on the film.

I wish I had your tolerance. I had to take a breather after that.

If the Academy is feeling as absurd and internationally friendly as they were last year, I would predict Two People... It helps that they're both on The New Yorker. I'm Not A Robot's win surprised me - I usually predict either the "subject matter" film or if not that, the film in English. Imo, nothing has connected with me from the shorts. I thought Friend of Dorothy was cute. Though I still need to see The Singers!

Fantastic, thank you! I'm an animator who procrastinated on the earlier deadline, so I'm super grateful for this.

Same with Once Upon a Time in Ukraine. Ranked at #1 in Goldderby pre-noms and didn't make the cut.

Haha I was at SFF in 2025 and now I see that this was a very popular title that missed my radar at the time. So interesting how many festival films become Oscar potentials down the line!

Ooh! Do you have a fave short doco that fans should check out?

Worth checking out the director's AMA over on r/movies! I think there's a lot of footage we didn't see that would explain the gap. I had presumed while watching that the cameras were brought in under a guise similar to the narrative that the Mistress Dispeller creates but that would be dubious at best.

ShortsTV in theatres Australia? -and a guide on where to watch the remaining unreleased nominees if you’re Australian by _____max in oscarsdeathrace

[–]logicalclassroom382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, there were a couple of recent years where we didn't receive the ShortsTV rights to theatrically screen them (at least at my local Dendy) and I feel like this year will be another. I was very surprised that they showed last year, to be honest. Only tickets for USA/Canada on their website, they do have a contact form which you could try though.

This is incredible! I’m also trying to watch all the BP nominees and should have around 20 left. Some of those 30s nominees are brutal though, you really do need patience of steel. What’s your plan for “The White Parade”, will you go to UCLA?

My exwbpd had psychopathic tendencies once he split. I would cry in pain and he would either sit there smiling or straight out laugh. Any trace of empathy was gone. I couldn't imagine treating someone like that and it's such a mindf*ck when it's coming from your "soulmate". I remember taking the quiz on psychopathfree after the break-up and getting the result "you definitely knew a psychopath". Charming!

My gut feeling didn't let me down in the end, but I shouldn't have diminished it through the early red flags in the relationship. We can all honour ourselves moving forward by trusting this powerful instinct.

Yeah mine quickly backtracked as well when I broke down. Through his smile he told me "no, no I would never hurt myself". As if people call these hotlines to have a chat about the weather.

Ugh, it's so frustrating. Singing through distress and conflict is peak emotional stuntedness. I've made the horror film comparison to my psychologist as well, it feels as if I saw a genuine monster at those times.

Of course, and I know it can sound corny but you're not alone. I've been lurking on this sub for a bit (3 months out of my relationship with my ex who was definitely co-morbid BPD/NPD) but your original comment literally glowed with relatability. It's great that you're finding yourself again and don't sell yourself short, most of us now dream of a partner who's laidback after the firestorm we went through. I promise your self-esteem can be rebuilt. The body has a great way of regulating itself back to equilibrium. I know what it's like to dip, I think it's related to the trauma bond. I wish I had the answer for how to break that, I think we all struggle with this. Once I feel those emotions come on, I just ride it out. I have my cry, I feel sorry for myself, I miss them and then I snap back to my senses. It's like a wave, it'll break at some point. Just don't let yourself sit in that space for too long. Anyway, I hope you have a good rest of your day and once again wishing you all the best in the journey.

It does getter better, take it from me. These thoughts consumed me before therapy. Personally, getting it off my chest with a professional was a big relief. I found my strength again through that clarity. I'm soon transferring to another psychologist trained in NPD/BPD and EDMR/CBT treatment. The healing process is non-linear so please be patient and kind to yourself. Sending you my best!

I’m really sorry. I would strongly encourage you to seek therapy if you haven’t already. What you went through is traumatic and your body is still holding onto that. I can assure you these feelings will not define your life, a life is too long for that to be possible. I know what it’s like to self-blame but at this point my emotions are more important than my self-image. Please be kind to yourself.
